My computer shuts off when I plug in my camera cable. At first I thought the cable went bad, but it also does that with my ipod cable. It only does it on the 2 front usb ports. My guess is a short, but it wasn't doing this yesterday.

Try hooking them up directly to the ports on the motherboard. If those work, there's a short on the front ports.
Are you charging your camera at the same time, i.e. using a plug.
I found that if I plugged in my external hdd and plugged it into the mains after it would turn the Pc off.
Try plugging it in before you turn the PC on.
