I used to spend so much time in this game. It was a bit buggy and unfinished, but it really did have a certain charm about it.

This game was one of my most favorite games of all, especially with Galactic Adventures add-on. oooh boy.
Like will inevitably be said there was lots of lost potential for this game, but it's worth this price for the creature creator alone. Its good fun.
I bought this game during another recent sale and I did not regret it.

It's a shame they took as long to come out with Galactic Adventures as they did, my love for this game died after spending hours upon hours in the Space stage where I discovered that it transforms from the fast-paced survival/diplomacy/RTS elements of the previous stages into "Galactic Baby-Sitter: The Game".
First stage is still the most enjoyable one.

Creature stage was the best
I mainly loved the game for the creature creator.
With a bit of creativity, such as using the limbs for other means, you can get some really neat looking things.
For 7.50 with GA is totally worth it. Not at all what it could have been but still an enjoyable game, especially for that price.
This game was the biggest disappointment
It took me a long time before I was able to get excited about a game again
Years ago I told myself I'd get the game when I felt like it wasn't overpriced for what it ended up being.
Even now at $4.99 I'm having a tough time justifying me getting this since it's as old as it is and the novelty of it isn't really there anymore :v:
I want the game how it was in that Robin Williams video.
Its ok as it is but it looked so much better back then.
One of the few games that's disappointing as all hell, but still worth playing.
If you weren't part of the hype train of 2005 gameplay, you might have fun.
I would say this game really needs a 'sequel' or a HD release or something. This game has an insane amount of potential being the best, as in, you can have actual multiplayer experience(MMO-like?) with players having their own creations in various stages playing with other players, cooperating(or fighting!), and for example Civilization stage can be a massive RTS war between cities. Space stage can become seriously epic by having better gameplay(let's be honest - ship controls are a bit crap) by having proper third-person ship control, bigger planet terraformation and customisation of colonies and such and an ability to play with other players!
That's a personal wishlist if anything, but that is what I was expecting from it when I bought it 6 years ago or something. Galactic Adventures could become even more epic, like having a fucking Mass Effect gameplay with character customisation and progression cause why not.
/wishlist
The creature creator is probably the only part i enjoyed most about the game.

That, and the countless Spore creature creator videos on YouTube, I swear I have seen more SPORE videos on YouTube than anything else.
There was a point in time where I said, "If you can think of it, chances are someone has already made it in Spore"
"Well they couldn't have somehow made a Space Marine in Spore"
Lo and behold, someone actually made one.

A fucking pizza?
Yeah someone made that too

Wait but no..someone couldn't have made a gun in Spo-
Yeah, somehow, someone made one as well

Seriously do it right now, think of a character or an item, and look it up on Youtube, but put SPORE after it, chances are, you'll find a Creature Creator video of it.
Creature creator is great fun, everything else is very disappointing.
The editors were really fun and so was terraforming planets.
I still remember that you can easily reach the center of the galaxy by simply going from star to star really fast so the enemy ships can't catch up to you.
Also I remember there was a mod that seriously reduced the emergencies on the Space stage, really made the Space stage way fucking better, it was so liberating to have that mod, you could actually take care of your planets and explore without having to stop and cross half the galaxy to solve an emergency every 2 minutes.
Space stage became fun with Galactic adventures, everything else was buggy and kind of shit, but in a cute and endearing way. Spent most of my time with the vehicle creators though, talented people could make some really neat shit on there

The space stage was horribly plagued by constant pirate attacks and ecological disasters on your colonies whenever you strayed too far. Even your homeworld would somehow need your specific help to deal with five sick animals in the woods.
This game propelled me into adolescence. I got it when I was still a little 7th grade scrub in the Youtube comments, and after I had Spore for about a year I discovered that people were making mods for it. Sporedum was the first forum I ever joined, and it died after like three months. I moved to a successor of it, SporeAddict, which lasted for about a year. It was through this community that I actually learned about the Internet and other video games. I owe a lot to Spore, as disappointing a game as it was.
The space stage is still pretty dope IMO, and the mods really make it incredible.

This is pretty much why I resorted to mods, little shit like this, kind of like how in the Sims 2 people would always start pillow fights if you left them alone for a few seconds.
Yeah the mods fixed it but all the websites for spore modding are now dead and the mods that could fix pirate attacks are gone with them.

last time i played the game though those mods were broken as hell for some reason and i could never get them to work

If anyone could point me to a website that's still alive and has all the cool space-stage-fixing mods like the pirate attack one, I will immediately re-install spore and... well, see how long it takes for me to get bored with it again.

I think there's a .zip out there with all of Sporedum's mods on it, albeit without their titles and descriptions. i think i have it downloaded somewhere on my computer.

Yeah, to clarify, at the bottom of the blog post I posted there is an active link to modding tools and a simple guide on how to change the frequency.
