Astro Base 01 is one of the first Colony in this sector of previously unexplored space. Their objective is to survey the planet for anything of interest or value. The transport isn't due back for some time and only a skeleton crew has been left until then. Hax is the Chief Excavator, Scruffy is the Mission Coordinator and Jenkins, the Science Chief.
Scruffy is in a deep sleep inside the Living Module, Jenkins enjoys a freeze dried meal and Hax is drilling into the rock for another core sample.

What type of infection army were you thinking, just one large blob of something that swallows stuff up?
Large creeping biomass. A bit slow, a bit dumb but clever and crafty. Gives time for a story and character development.

So there's an atmosphere on the planet?
No, that's why they have space suits and airlocks. But your biomass isn't effected.

Well, saying it -doesn't- have an atmosphere wouldn't be entirely correct. It's just not breathable to people but sound travels, albeit not very well which is why the boombox is so loud, that along with the drill and the helmet make it a bit impossible to hear much else.

[i]It spreads, sending it's small tendrils through the rock and into the surrounding grounds as well as the cavern above. It sticks out two of it's tongue-like tentacles to investigate the object encroaching on it's space. There's definitely food present.
It attempts to get into the man's head, but can only manage to manifest itself inside his thoughts as background voices, and says.[/i]
[b][i]My tomb is entered by foreign intruders, but perhaps you are of more value to me than a simple burglar...[/i][/b]
* Hax retracts the drill and turns off the machine, "These lyrics don't make sense..." he thinks, not to mention a weird tingle in his head, maybe a minor headache? [b]"What is this, Limp Bizkit?"[/b] He mumbles, turning around.

He spies strange wires coming from the cave floor.. he didn't remember those being there before.

* He reaches over and turns off the radio, then kneels and tries to pull one of them from the floor out of curiosity, opening his Comms. [b]"Hey, Jenkins, you there?"[/b] Jenkins hears the call and removes the radio from his belt, [b]"Yeah, what do you need?"[/b]Hax pulls harder on the cord, it seems pretty well in there. [b]"I think I found something here."[/b] He answers, not very thrilled with the finding.

[i]The tendrils continue to grow, and two wrap around the man, one around his hand and forearm and the other around this foot and calf.
The voice is much louder now, as if some one is talking right next to him; mainly because there's no more distractions and the tendrils are making contact with him.
It doesn't sound like a human voice at all, it's deep and raspy, like a character from a popular 21st century video game series.[/i]

* The Commotion downstairs wakes Scruffy who wonders down the ladder to see what the problem is.

[i]The tendrils continue to expand, although the one on the man's arm snaps off when pulled enough. It seems to let off a slight screeching when pulled off, and it also goes grey and dies.
The voice grows in the man's head, causing pain similar to having a migraine. It's words throb in his head as if it's standing right next to him and yelling into his ear.[/i]
[b][i]I TOLD you not to panic. You will only exacerbate the situation and make it worse on yourself!!![/i][/b]
I'm gonna go to bed maybe after one more turn.
Woah, that's.. amazing stuff.

* [i]Hax continues to struggle and shout incoherently, the pain only make his panic grow, the suit prevents the arm from being ripped clear from his body, if the suit tore it would equate to being hit by a truck physically from the atmospheric pressure and kill him.[/i]
* [b]"It's Hax, somethings wrong he's having some sort of shitfit. Suit up."[/b][i] Jenkins declares, preparing his suit while Scruffy hurries to clothe himself.[/i]

[i]The tentacle wraps around the man's head, and the throbbing stops, and so should most of the panic. It also seems to be more in his head than before, and it probes around in his head[/i]

* Hax is released, he doesn't answer but proceeds out of the cavern, his broken arm hanging limply as his side and a weird fungus-like growth along his side.
* Scruffy and Jenkins speed off in the Rover.

[i]It continues to infect the caves. It spreads in the upper cave like wildfire. It finishes a pair of creatures, using the nutrient rich oil in the barrels. The cocoon shatters and a pair of parasites leap out, and almost fly due to the low gravity and air resistance.[/i]
