“Brains of Game Addicts Same as Brains of Drug Addicts”

[quote=Sankaku]Medical researchers comparing the brains of people addicted to online games and those addicted to drugs claim the same parts of the brain are affected in both cases, an insight which will come as little surprise to anyone familiar with MMORPGs.
The Korean research team used PET scans to analyse brain activity, and found the “game addicts” to have elevated activity in the areas such the orbitofrontal cortex and caudate nucleus compared to non-gamers.
Subsequent comparisons between the brains of MMO addicts (illustrated above on the right) and cocaine addicts (on the left) revealed similar patterns of activity.
The researchers express their hopes that these results will lead to a recognition of MMO addiction as a medical condition:
“These research results demonstrate that online gaming addiction requires specialised medical treatment just as narcotics addiction does, and we hope it will be recognised as just such a mental illness.”

Nonsense. Drugs make you feel good. Video games make you feel good. Doesn't make them the same thing.
I think you'll find this is the same with any kind of person addicted to any kind of thing.
Video games, sex, and drugs, and rock and roll aren't the problem, it's the people who are addicted to them who are the problem.
I could stop playing any time I wanted to.

I just don't want to.
Thats fucking stupid
no one really cares korea can you please just stop trying to make games look bad
how about FPS?
Honestly... I blame WoW, and Maplestory...
I bet Gamers and Drug addicts have a lot of similar body parts.
And I bet they're similar to everybody else in the world.
Gamers and drug addicts both have two legs and two arms.

And one head and torso.
Soon they'll make gaming illegal. In case it does happen, I'm moving to Brazil.
Quitting gaming doesn't have withdraw, so this makes no sense.
It don't mind it being an addiction but honestly where else am I going to go? If I go outside i'm going to have to fight chavs and waste money on frivolous and luxury items for fun whereas being addicted to games and internet I can fight trolls and waste money on games.

it's ironic how they made Maplestory.
I have friends on both sides of this, and i have to say there is no competition between the two. Although my 'druggie' friend uses the words 'logic' and 'reason' as much as possible it seems like he goes out of his way to avoid following both of them, while my gamer friend is actually pretty damn intelligent. But for some reason i doubt it has anything to do with the games and drugs and rather the people themselves.
That's a bit freaky.
Interesting, the MRI readouts indicate the language is Korean... Hmm... Correlation?
I can quit if I want, I just don't want to...

In all honesty I don't blame them. Internet and game addiction is a serious issue in South Korea.
I mean the national sport is fucking Starcraft.

That was old back in 2000.
games r bayd u must stap playing them or jesus will be mad at u
:regd09:

How is this new? I thought any addiction affects the same part of your brain.
What do they mean to accomplish with this? With the billions of dollars made by games and the millions collected in taxes on said games, the government and game industries would NEVER shut gaming down.
Psychological video addictions affect the same part of the brain as psychological drug addictions. :O
Who'd have fucking thunk it?
Human brain found to be like another human brain, what are the odds!?

I was serious.
Be right back, inserting video games into a syringe. Aaaa it feels good.
