Reuters was not able to verify the accounts independently and they were denied by Syrian state television, which said they were disseminated deliberately to distract a team of United Nations chemical weapons experts which arrived three days ago. The U.N. team is in Syria investigating allegations that both rebels and army forces used poison gas in the past, one of the main disputes in international diplomacy over Syria. A nurse at Douma Emergency Collection facility, Bayan Baker, said the death toll, as collated from medical centers in the suburbs east of Damascus, was 213. "Many of the casualties are women and children. They arrived with their pupil dilated, cold limbs and foam in their mouths. The doctors say these are typical symptoms of nerve gas victims," the nurse said. Extensive amateur video and photographs purporting to show victims appeared on the Internet. A video purportedly shot in the Kafr Batna neighborhood showed a room filled with more than 90 bodies, many of them children and a few women and elderly men. Most of the bodies appeared ashen or pale but with no visible injuries. About a dozen were wrapped in blankets.
Video in question - NSFW Warning Who ever is doing this needs to stop, the bodies are just piling up.
Jesus...
1300?! Oh my god...
jesus fucking christ
Just a few days ago thousands of syrians were getting out of there..
So many people
Such are the horrors of chemical warfare, and warfare in general. But still, this didn't need to happen. It didn't need to happen at all.
Syria just pressed the dismantle regime button.
I can't wait to see how Syria and Russia spin this.
Hold onto your butts! World Police inbound!
How much of the total Syrian population has been killed or fled the country?
1300, fucking hell that's a lot of people that died
Would this be a quick way to die? seems quite a slow process going by wikipedia.. would you just suffocate if you came into contact with a large quantity?
At the same time UN authorities are there to see if chemical weapons are being used... Hmmmm sounds a little suspicious... Sounds like the UN is just chomping at the bit to overthrow Assad.
Would this be a quick way to die? seems quite a slow process going by wikipedia.. would you just suffocate if you came into contact with a large quantity?
Well there is the whole foaming at the mouth part...
Would this be a quick way to die? seems quite a slow process going by wikipedia.. would you just suffocate if you came into contact with a large quantity?
Slow or fast, death by nerve gas is excruciating.
Would this be a quick way to die? seems quite a slow process going by wikipedia.. would you just suffocate if you came into contact with a large quantity?
Dying that way must feel like an eternity regardless of the actual time passed.

Sounds like one of either sides is killing innocent people to blame the other side. Noone likes how this thing started, but it seems clear the 'rebels' are a bunch of unshackled barbarians that would sacrifice and do literally anything to win this war. If you look back at how things were, the lesser evil wasn't that bad in comparison.
I can't wait to see how Syria and Russia spin this.
Russia Today already has an op-ed up with the headline "Syria gas attack story has whiff of Saudi war propaganda"
This chemical is the most vile invention of mankind behind nuclear weapons. I can't believe someone used it again. This is absolutely horrible, disgusting. My skin is crawling with disgust at my own species. Few things on the internet can cause an apathetic cynical american like myself to become physically ill, but this is one of them. Damn I wish this stuff didn't exist.
Holy fucker of mothers that is horrible as soon as I saw "Nerve gas attack" on the front page my heart sank but I didn't expect it would be that bad
Wow it's like we're in WWI again. Fucking nerve gas is in the top 5 of most horrible things invented.
Obama - "Shit just got real"
Shit man. Why the fuck would anyone want to do that to another person?
1300 fucking people, oh god please...
It's possibly just got bad enough that the western powers might be obliged to step in. Still, I'm not entirely sure I want them to. Would we make things better or worse?
What kind of sick people would do this
Wow it's like we're in WWI again. Still, I dunno which is worse; the brain damage or the lung damage. Probably the brain damage. God help us if some madman ever makes some sort of mustard nerve gas.
i didn't mean to fart
