So I have a 5770, and I've watched videos of people playing crysis on very high settings at at least 20-30 fps using the same video card. But for some reason when I play it I get closer to 10 fps, with no AA turned on at all at 1650x1050 resolution. I'm trying to figure out why my performance is so bad compared to theirs. My specs are:
4gb DDR2 667 RAM
ASUS M4A785-M mobo
Phenom II 555 x2 unlocked to x4
5770
600w OCZ PSU
I also have the 5770 overclocked and the processor overclocked to 3.4 GHz. Is there something bottlenecking here or is something else going on?
Well, there are many reasons as to why you may be etting a lower frame rate. Such as hardware setup, drivers, background software, etc... GPU plays a big part, true, but naturally other people may have a superior hardware setup to yours.
Take a look at "Gamebooster" (just google it) and then download the gamebooster - hardware accelerator... - It switches your computer to "gaming mode" by removing all unecessary background processes. When i use it it frees up 300mb + of RAM. It may or may not help.
Wow, I wasn't expecting gamebooster to do that much but it increased my fps by 10.
Also, would it make that much difference in performance to run crysis in 64 bit mode vs 32? Mine crashes when I start 64 bit but I'm curious what the difference would be.
If you have 4GB of RAM you'll get more RAM for it. But keep in mind the 64-bit version actually has increased draw distance to make up for it.
If you have 2GB+ free ram then increased ram won't get you extra fps

wat
But it can free up some of your cpu. I know it helps me lower my cpu usage which allows me to get playable FPS on TF2 with 24+ players.
