At 9:25 p.m. Thursday, eight officers reponded to the report of the robbery, many of them using their emergency lights and traveling at "an increased rate of speed," said an affidavit by patrol officer James Weddle.
Jamie L.Gordon said "she had been struck in the head with a bowling ball and all of the money, $2,100, had been stolen out of the safe," Weddle wrote in his statement.
She said she did not see her assailant because she was struck from behind and knocked unconscious.
When a manager arrived at the bowling alley, he granted Weddle permission to view the surveillance video.
"I observed Jamie walk into the office. Jamie walks over to the counter in the office and picks up a red bowling ball with her left hand and a cash drawer with her right hand," the affidavit said. "Jamie proceeds to strike herself twice in the back, left side of her head with the bowling ball."
Gordon then "dropped to the floor," where she remained for 13 minutes, waiting for another employee to discover her.
After informing Gordon that he "just watched her strike herself in the head with a bowling ball twice on video," he asked her where the money was. "Jamie sighed and stated, 'Some of it is in my car.' "
She led the officer to her car "where she pulled out a Hello Kitty brand bag full of money. The bag contained $439."
When asked where the rest of the missing money was, Gordon said she had gambled it away in the bowling alley's slot machines.
"Jamie admitted to striking herself in the head with the bowling ball in an attempt to make it look like she had been robbed. Jamie advised she struck herself with the bowling ball so that she would have a knot on her head when police arrived."
On the one hand it's great that criminals are so stupid, on the other hand I wonder how you can be that stupid.
I mean, clearly some degree of forethought went into this (at least I hope it did, who randomly thinks "I bet I could rob this place by inflicting a blunt force injury on myself" and then actually does it spur of the moment), so how is it that the security cameras were not considered? Surely an employee would be aware that there are cameras.
Good going, you made you're self stupider.

Some degree, true enough, just not much of it.
As for the cameras, it's possible that they could have slipped her mind, given that she was intent on just robbing the place. Could be likely she didn't know about their existence either if she was careless. What surprises me more is how come people aren't aware that there's ways to find out, camera or no camera, that you can tell if injuries are self inflicted.
She should have split town while she had the chance.

She'd have noticed the cameras if she had an eagle's eyes. But looks like she just couldn't strike out when it came to pinning someone who doesn't exist with the crime.

what a turkey
A number of times the first thing to stop me doing a crime is the fact Im smart enough to know Im not smart enough to get away with it.
Morals and all factor in too but that's usually the deal-breaker
I work at a bowling alley and we have cameras literally, EVERY 10 FEET. There's 4 alone in the small 8x8 front desk area. Lots of cash to be had at bowling alleys... Its getting more expensive to bowl now-a-days.
Kinda makes you wonder if she's been hitting her head with balls for a living to come up with such a "genius" idea.
Bowling ball pun

Testicles or bowling balls?

At least she spared them the trouble of having to going through the tapes.
