• Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula overruns Yemeni Army outpost, kills 60+ soldiers

[release] A Yemeni government spokesman tells Fox News that Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is responsible for the deaths of at least 60 Yemeni soldiers in the southern province of Abyan after a massacre Sunday. The attack at a forward operating base or FOB, about 10 miles from the strategic city of Zinjibar, an area largely controlled by the network's affiliate, included suicide bombers and VBIEDS (vehicle borne improvised explosive devices.) The assault began from the east, and like a one-two punch, a second assault was launched form the north with AQAP operatives taking control of the Yemeni military's artillery and rockets, according to the Yemeni government spokesman "This is an open war. It is a major blow to the military. AQAP are very strong. We have a serious problem now," he said. In addition to the dead, Fox News was told that dozens were injured and some survivors were "taken prisoner or kidnapped." The assault was described as "ruthless and barbaric" according to the Yemeni government spokesman who was briefed on the massacre, adding "They slit throats. It was very personal -- the murders. It was meant to send a message."[/release] http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/03/04/yemeni-government-official-this-is-open-war/?test=latestnews?test=latestnews
Shit is gonna go down via Arab League.

I kinda question how this happends. I remember seeing a video on here of bunch if militants assaulting a u.s outpost in Afganistan. The literally just drove up to the front of the base in trucks and hoped out in front of several machine gun positions. They dont really seem to be tactical geniuses.
wait im confused i thought al-queda has been heavily weakened and even resorted to doing rap music to recruit children am i missing something he- foxnews.

The video you're talking about was of like 6 guys in 2 pick up trucks. This assault had to been with dozens of men.

Obviously Osama Bin Laden's death would have affected the organization quite negatively, but I think they were in a stable condition shortly afterwards. Besides, it's not like there aren't independent cells operating. The good part about a disorganized command structure is that your best agents don't take the same damage the worse ones do; if this were a seperate cell, it's basically a whole other beast from the ones Bin Laden operated with most often.

Think of the women who were in the outpost....[IMG]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/IMG]
For a second I actually thought they killed the soldiers in combat, but no, the cowards just mindlessly hurl themselves at soldiers and buildings and hope things die.

They all are killed within a few seconds of the attack. I wish I could find the video but its been so long.
Isnt it spelt "Al Qaeda"?
I didn't know that the arabs were really against each other. I guess this strengthens the US in the middle east now.

The video you are talking about was the Taliban were going to assault a base held by marines but somehow the marines learned of their plan. The marines then prepared an ambush and killed the Taliban as they drove to assault the base.
Isnt it spelt "Al Qaeda"?
Arabic only translates to our Latin alphabet phonetically, so there are many ways to spell it. Same thing with Gaddaffi/Quadhafi/whatever or the Koran/Qur'an e.t.c.

Sensationalist headline of the week.
