Sooo... its 5 in the morning and ive been up since midnight trying to get my Xbox 360 (newest updates installed and all that) to connect to my HP Touchsmart PC (also updated, Windows 7 64 bit home, has Media Player 11, Norton 2010) so that i can play my music library without filling my xbox's Hard drive. I go through the motions till 3:30 and FINALLY get Windows Media Center to sync up to the Xbox. Problem solved, right? Wrong. I still cant play my music from the computer without being in the Xbox media center. I try to connect to my computer, and i get "PC Not Listed" (means it cant connect to the PC).
HERE'S WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR:
Ive set it up so that the PC (through the control panel AND media player 11) reads that my media files are shared with my Xbox AND reads the xbox as an external device.
Ive connected Media Center (mentioned above).
Ive tried to open the necessary ports in Norton.
Ive turned off the default Windows firewall AND the Norton Smart Firewall (at the same time, of course).
I already have ports forwarded for my Xbox in my Linksys Wireless N router, so i shouldnt have to mess with that (should i???)
THE REALLY FUCKING CONFUSING PART:
If i go into my external devices in my computer, my xbox is listed, recognized, and ready to roll. BUT, the Xbox wont (or cant, for some reason) find or communicate with the computer (cant "see" it).
AND, the Xbox did, for some reason, pick up my computer once BEFORE i got the Xbox in my shared devices list and got Media Center connected.
*Will repost in the main Hardware/Software forum it Technical Support yields no results.
Use an alternative program as a media server.

I would, but the problem seems to be the Xbox "seeing" my computer, not the other way around. Media player is up and ready to stream. The Xbox just won't/cant connect to my computer. Like, at all.
Have you set your PC to show up on the network
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings

I have. All options are set to their respective "on" positions.
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Media streaming options
???????????
Not sure if its the same with windows 7 because i use XP, but have you gone into the windows media player, then library, then media sharing? you have to enable your xbox or something like that

Its there. Already allowed and on default settings, like the setup told me to.

Also done.
Again, the problem is between the computer and the Xbox. Its not even recognizing that my comp exists.
It might be a network thing, have you restarted your router
It might be a network thing, have you restarted your router
Yes. Once at the beginning of the process. I didn't do it again because i was on my comp online and i was on live, so i knew i was connected to the internet on both ends.
I had to mess with my router in order to get my brothers xbox to connect to his PC. You may want to dig around your routers settings and see
Dunno if this might work. But when I wanted to access my PC via my PS3, I had to bridge my net connection with my PS3 connection. I assumed that there was something about my internet connection which was cancelling out my PS3 connection.
Maybe give it a try?

I guess i'll check that out some more. It's really the only other option. I'll mess with it tomorrow. Its too late (early?) to do it now. I need sleep.

I read something like that online, but it seemed to be more for accessing the internet (live and what not) using the computer as a... gateway(???) of sorts. But that was just my impression. I'll check that out too.
Well the way it happened for me, my PS3 could access the internet via PC, but it couldn't access the media stored on the PC until I bridged them.
Norton sucks, but that's not your problem here. Are you on a cable network?

After trying to find out how to open ports in Norton's overly-automatic Smart Firewall, im beginning to agree. But it protects really well, so im ok with it.
And yes, i am on Suddenlink High-Speed Internet, a cable company.
I mean, are you on a wired or wireless network?

Well, my Xbox i connected to my router via ethernet. My computer connects wirelessly.

I don't think that it's a problem of network connectivity, try to ping your 360. If that works, then blame WMP and get an alternative program. I've had hardly any positive results using it to stream media.

I tried to ping it, but i got no reply. However, i read that you shouldn't always expect a reply from pinging an Xbox.
