#To skip the unnecessary yabbering go to the line <<---
Greetings, my laptop died some time ago and i've just stripped it for parts ( sold cpu, ram and battery), then i thought to myself "mmm... dualscreen"..
The laptop had a 15.4" screen which ain't much, but i've been dying to get a second screen for some time and i'm too cheap to buy one ;p (plus this is way more fun)
So, i need to connect the laptop screen's LVDS input to my computers DVI-I output.
Since LVDS and DVI ain't exactly made to work together(and labtop screens ain't exactly made to work without a labtop) i need a controller to teach them a bit about teamwork, that's where You come in buddy :D.
I've been poking a bit around and found alot of controllers that, amongst other things, can do what i want, but i don't want to pay the price of a new screen , to use a salvaged 15.4" screen and have a bunch of options i don't use...
<<----------
Anyhow! , i need eiter a "cheap" simple DVI-LVDS controller, or since i'm in training as an electronic engineer, a schematic and a parts list (rather have that since it's more fun ;D).
I need something in the reigns of this

Axiomtek only sell to business/in bulk, thats what they said to me when I contacted them about that exact part,
hows this: http://www.dpieshop.com/kontron-crttolcd5-flat-panel-controller-for-lvds-lcds-vgadvi-input-21024-p-408.html

:psyduck:
Don't laptops use a modified VGA cable or something?
many laptops have a VGA output yes, but that's connected to the graphics card not the screen directly and have no real effect on my issue :)..
The closest i can see is DVI which outputs a TMDS signal (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) which i want to convert to a LVDS signal (Low-voltage differential signaling), which is what the labtop LCD understands :).
I have found a diagram for a VGA to LVDS converter but from what i can tell it won't go over 8bit color which is... bad :p.. Plus that's a Digitial-to-analog-to-digital conversion since i'm starting from DVI, which technically is more work than just converting directly from dvi to lvds and i get worse quality :p..
I know i misspelled laptop :p, i just think of them as computer i bring to the lab (laboratory?) not something i put in my lap, that's an uncomfortable position.
Thank you for the link Pringles, but it's too pricey(can get a crappy screen of same size for the cost of the controller) and it has VGA-to-LVDS which i'm betting is the majority of the price :/.
