The confusing back-and-forth between Steam and Electronic Arts continues. Crysis 2 and Alice: Madness Returns listings all disappeared from Steam earlier this week, followed by a statement from EA stating certain business terms had changed.
The change violated an existing agreement Crytek had regarding Crysis 2 with another company, EA said, thus forcing Crysis 2 to come down from the store.
That didn't really explain what happened to Alice: Madness Returns, though.
Alice: Madness Returns returned to Steam today. EA sent me an odd statement explaining why.
"EA Partners and Spicy Horse Games appreciate Steam’s decision to sell Alice: Madness Returns," said the company. "The game is also available on several other download services including Amazon, Gamestop and Origin.com."
This doesn't answer several questions: why isn't Crysis 2 back? Why was it "Steam's decision" to allow Alice: Madness Returns back into Steam? Will Battlefield 3 ever show up? Does this impact future EA releases? What business terms changed that prompted this in the first place?
At E3, EA launched Origin, a proprietary digital platform for serving up EA content. Though neither company has said so, there's reason to believe these moves have to do with Origin.
I'm asking all of these to try and learn more. When (and if) I hear back, I'll let you know.

WHAT IS GOING ON
:psyduck:
I'm as confused as you are, Wii60.
I was going to purchase it on Steam, came home from work and it was gone v:v:v
I'm still curious as to why Crysis 2 was removed, in detail.
Stop messing with us :byodood:
Valve is getting pushed over.
Tell EA to fuck off.
Good god. This makes even it more confusing! :psyboom:
Its either Valve telling EA that they don't want to sell their shit; which I doubt.
Or its EA making up lies trying to mask up them trying to single out a company trying to promote their own products (which may be a business law somewhere they can sue someone on).

Yeah ea the bad guy, valve all saint, no black spots

When was EA ever good to you? :allears:
EA is trying to make their own version of Steam.
Thus I side with Valve.
They have provided us with a consistent and reliable platform with significant discounts and a good user experience.
I'm staying with Steam nevertheless.

Quite often? They sometimes release good games(valve sometimes releases bad games too), their support isn't too bad, they also give free games and stuff.
They're not pure evil, just with some fuckups here and there, and so is valve.
This whole thing is just confusing, we need more information.
EA and Steam...
Also adding to when was EA good too us... They gave me a free copy of BF1943 for the PS3 because I was having issues linking a game too my account.
so it is come to this, you can only pre order (digitally) game and get extra dlc at Origin. After the game released it will be available to other distribution like steam/d2d.

This is true, valve has been getting on the end of dirty business lately...

yeah, shoulda figured that out earlier if I played TF2, and the horrible release of Portal2.
Yeah ea the bad guy, valve all saint, no black spots
EA violated a contract with valve. If I were to form a contract with walmart, asking them to sell my special new revolutionary sponge and they get a % of the proffits, and they accept and we both sign the contract. I go and do something to void the contract, is walmart going to continue to sell those sponges? of course not.

EA didn't violate shit, crytek did.
If Origin lets you play the games you paid for if your internet cuts out then I'm sold.

That depends entirely on game's drm and not origin(which is not drm btw)
I guess the madness has truly returned.
All I want is BF3 on Steam :frown:
Spicy Horse Games
really?

Spicy Horse Games
They're based in China.
did anyone else notice how it was Steam's decision and not Valve's
steam is becoming sentient :tinfoil:
I'm inclined to side with EA on this debate, because a business wouldn't make such claims if they were actually lying. It also doesn't help those on Valve's side that Valve hasn't made any statements yet. Anyways it would be nice for EA to put Crysis 2 back on Steam as well as offer Battlefield 3 on it, just to appease the Steam fanboys. I'm still buying Battlefield 3 at retail though (well, importing it).
I love how there is so much vagueness, and yet most people side with valve.

Since Valve is a private company and EA is public, EA will generally be worse due to having to provide for stock holders.

Steam has it's own management team.
