Is there a battery you could use for a desktop computer that lets you charge it up then use it intstead of a power cord? I need to be shutting my computer off earlier because we're facing bankruptcy.

They have APC backup units but those are only for emergency and only last about 3 minutes at most. Also it wouldn't make a difference anyways if it was even possible, you would still end up using the same power, in fact more since you would lose a small portion of power in the battery charging process alone.
Here is an analogy, If you have 12 bananas in a basket, and you take 3 away to eat, and at the same time you stuff your pockets full with 3 other mushy bananas to eat later, your still going to be left with a basket with 6 nasty rotting mushy bananas lol.
