Over 20 tonnes of the 'love it or hate it' Marmite was spilled onto the M1 motorway last night after a tanker overturned. The motorway between junction 33 and 32 of Sheffield had to be closed for almost 12 hours while the clean up began, causing over 10 miles of traffic during rush hour. A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: 'We were called at 10.15pm yesterday to reports of a tanker, which was carrying 23.5 tonnes of waste yeast, overturning, 'Some of the contents were spilled on the northbound carriageway and we are in the process of emptying the remaining contents of the tanker and clearing up the spillage before it can be moved and the road reopened.' Some people will love this news, others will hate it ..”

“Street value of a tanker full of marmite? Assuming 500g pots of marmite at a fiver a pot? £235,000. I love maths.”

Fucking love marmite. This is sad news indeed.
-snip-
I think most commuters will be hating Marmite right now.
That must fucking suck to get off of the road.
uhh whats marmite and why should i hate/love it.
I ought to tell my parents about this news, my Ma might be interested
Marmite! You'd have to be crazy to love it!
uhh whats marmite and why should i hate/love it.
A very bitter, salty spread, high in iron and yeast. It's marketed around the "you love it or you hate it" because you genuinely do - I've never met someone who is ambiguous to such a strong taste.
Poor road : (
Good on bread. Bad on the road.
Good.
Hey, nice marmot.
That must fucking suck to get off of the road.
This was after 12 hours of cleaning:
Did they use butter knives and toast to clean it?
I had no idea what Marmite was so i had to look it up but it sounds absolutely disgusting. No wonder british food has such a bad reputation.
Eww marmite. [editline]29th November 2011[/editline] Must be fucking awful cleaning the stuff up, seeing it's gooey.
I actually quite like Marmite, so many haters here :(
Marmite is delicious, in fact as we speak I am currently indulging on some delicious butter, Marmite and cheese on toast. all melted in for maximum delicious [editline]29th November 2011[/editline] could eat it with a spoon on its own
I had no idea what Marmite was so i had to look it up but it sounds absolutely disgusting. No wonder british food has such a bad reputation.
its called also called vegemite and is found in the US and probably canada too. Marmite is just the british label for it...
I had no idea what Marmite was so i had to look it up but it sounds absolutely disgusting. No wonder british food has such a bad reputation.
Why is this getting dumbs? Britain does have a reputation for bad food.
I've never tried Marmite.. =/
Why is this getting dumbs? Britain does have a reputation for bad food.
Because marmite isn't just a british thing. That's like saying all food in the UK tastes like shit because you don't like fish and chips, it's just a really dumb thing to say.
Marmite's banned here, so I've no idea what it tastes like :v:
Marmite's banned here, so I've no idea what it tastes like :v:
Hahaha I read about that!
3 of my friends were pretty pissed about it on their various drives into work, I'd feel sorry for them but they have cars and meaningful employment and were in a car with a heater so yeah, it explains why my dad's late home as well.
Looks like it was heading Yeastbound. also the junctions it was blocking are literally 10mins from me so i was late to work as most of the traffic flow diverted through Chesterfield, the town i work in.
