Hi, how you doin'? just kick back and relax a bit you know. pour some wine. dim the lights. all comfortable? good now we can begin. this is a thread about Joanna Newsom.
Joanna Newsom (born January 18, 1982) is an American harpist, pianist and singer-songwriter from Nevada City, California.

Joanna Newsom's voice--a piercing flutter that's pitched somewhere between Björk and a hand brake--is an acquired taste.
Between a Bjork and a Hand brake? yeah she has a weird voice deal wit it The Milk-Eyed Mender - 2004 The Milk-Eyed Mender is Joanna Newsom in that newcomer style stripped-down indie folk. what's wrong with her voice here's the great thing, if you don't like her voice in that video, please skip to Ys, the next album which features her using a completely different voice. it's cool i like it okay well here are some other cuts i don't know what it's about... BOLT like a HORSE i'm not a huge fan of folk that's okay, please follow me into the next section of the renaissance fair. Ys - 2006 the term laying it thick comes to mind On this album, not only does she come out of her shell with songs that mean something around every single corner, but she also blasts any conception of old timey harpy music out of the corner. And her voice is quite different, becoming deeper while still maintaining that grainy edge. Here's a song about dying. all the songs on Ys are about dying. here's a song about dying again. choice quote: but what was yours and mine appears to be a sandcastle that the gibbering wave takes at least this song is about someone else dying: her voice still sounds weird please come along with me to our final section: Have One on Me - 2010 This 3CD! monster of an album is part rock, part folk, part psychedelica, and plain just weird. her voice once again transforms into a softer timbre with little of her famous grit. the instrumentation is expanded into a good-ole jam band. fun fact: she bops like a chicken while playing this song. do you know how difficult it is to change key in the middle of a bar while playing on a harp? fucking letterman thanks i'm not a fan of the music, can i have more pictures of her uhh ok Her birthday is on January 18th, why don't you get her some nice money by buying a vinyl!?
chyea love this gal milk eyed mender is the best of course
but Ys is the indisputable crown jewel though (woo someone posted in this thread i made when i was drunk.)
haha i was drawn in by the expressive writing style. yeaaa I dunno, i often forget she plays harp when I listen to Ys, and I love the haunting lines in MEM :3
I'm intrigued by her, but haven't listened to a single song. In due time.
My brother introduced me to Joanna about five years ago - my favourites have always been Casseopia and Inflammatory Writ. Not listened to her in ages, though...

oh my god. Her first two albums.. so beautiful
Listened to 2 thirds of the triple album today. Just brilliant. Might end up being my favourite of hers. But we'll see.
She's got a really beautiful voice in an odd kinda way. Swansea was the first song I heard by her, I really like that song, the lyrics are especially nice.
