• 2 different PSU connecting to my GPU?

Title is a bit misleading i know.. So a few weeks ago i orderd my new PC called SkyNet and the graphic card was a NVidia GeForce GTX 560 TI but after the PC shop lost the card (They where moving to a other location and lost it in all the boxes) they called me up and said i would get a Extreme Edition GTX 570 So it came in 2 days ago, was all hyped up.. well not really because if i did i would almost die since i got a horrible virus infection in my body. But that night i unscrewed my PC and wanted to insert my card but then i saw that you need 2 6 PIN PCI adapters And i only got one.. So i looked all the time but i did not saw any second 6 pin. So now am i asking. Can i put the 6 pin of my old PC into the GTX without damaging it? (Or any alternatives)
what specific PSU do you have if it doesn't have 2 PCI-E connectors then all signs point to it not being sufficient for a 570 anyway
It's possible but requires some finagling, I've done it before. You need a N.O. (normally open) 5-12V coil SPST relay (RadioShack sells 'em for "relatively" cheap) and a way to connect said relay to both PSUs in the following manner: 1) Connect the coil leads to the respective voltage wires (5 or 12V depending on coil voltage) of the main PSU. 2) Connect the switch contacts to the green and black wires of the secondary PSU. When the first PSU powers on, it will energize the relay coil, closing the contacts which will short the green wire to the black wire, which will turn on the second PSU.
Or OP can just get a molex->6pin and use that as well as the 6pin on the CPU. [editline]11th February 2011[/editline] Make the store give you a new PSU, or a molex adapter, at least.
SkyNet? For the SAKE OF HUMANITY, do NOT turn that computer on. Please.
It is probably safer and more convenient to just get a molex to 6 pin adapter, OP. Messing around with Mains powered equipment isn't a good idea unless you know what you're doing.
the green wire is in gray color on some PSUs
And on some others, gray it's the PSU_check wire used so the motherboard can check the condition of the PSU. Really, 99% of PSU's use green to turn it on, it's only chinese copy psu's that have it grey.
I think i will get a molex > 6pin Shall report later on for a update
I think i will get a molex > 6pin Shall report later on for a update
Make sure your psu can handle this. I also did this to support my crosfirre btw, works like a charm.
I got a 900 watt PSU
I think i will get a molex > 6pin Shall report later on for a update
BAH, you're no fun.
I got a 900 watt PSU
900 watts and only ONE 6 pin connector?
I got only 850 watts but I gladly trade off my extra 50 watts for eight different 6-pin/6+2-pin connectors.
900 watts and only ONE 6 pin connector?
One connector to rule them all, but on a serious note that is a bit odd. Does it have an 8pin connector?
Just get a Molex adapter for a buck and move along.
Just get a Molex adapter for a buck and move along.
if he has a "900W" with only one PCI-E connector then pairing it with a 570 is a terrible idea OP what specific PSU, it could be a $10 piece of shit or it could be fine and you're just confusing different connectors (e.g 6+2 pin PCI-E, the extra 2 are removable)
Black Diamond PCU (900 watt) Thats what it says.

Call them back and demand a new PSU for screwing your build up :D
