A friend wants me to help him get into his Aspire One netbook. I tried following a guide to flash the bios to remove the password by flashing it with a jump drive. Every time it just brings me to the Type CURRENT Password prompt. I have tried "PASSWORD" as the password and everything. Any idea on how to fix this?
Some motherboards can have their passwords cleared simply by flashing the BIOS, other's require you to enter the password before flashing the BIOS. The only solution is to use the CMOS reset jumper on the motherboard, though many laptops lack one or have it in some ridiculously hard to get to location. So you're pretty much left with cracking the BIOS password. I'll see if there's a utility to do that somewhere.
I've got the laptop opened up and located the supposed jumper. It wont clear after following the service manual directions. [url]http://tim.id.au/laptops/acer/aspire%20one.pdf[/url] [editline]14th October 2010[/editline] It is actually 2 netbooks I am trying to fix. One has a password on the bios so it wont boot. The other won't boot because there is a password on the hdd. Both are set in the bios though. [editline]14th October 2010[/editline] Both are the same model.
Are you sure you're doing it right/located the correct jumper? Sorry I just don't want to browse through the huge PDF to find the one page the details are on.
According to the service manual yes. It is on page 123 by the way. I took both a screwdriver and a penny to try and short the jumpers while following the directions on the manual.
