Oh look another unasked for thing. A maniac in an unstable mental state kills a bunch of people (including women) and feminists/male-ists(is that a word?) use it as another excuse to start rambling... He was a fucking lunatic that didn't get stopped in time. He is not the face of a generation or a group of people. He was just a lunatic.

Oh man it's another wave of those "Things that never happen" twitters.
Oh man it's another wave of those "Things that never happen" twitters.
What do you mean by "things that never happen"?
What do you mean by "things that never happen"?
Things like women being groped in public. Does it happen? Yes, be very rude people and usually cops being called. Also, men not being told about consent.
Things like women being groped in public, men not being told about consent.
You really think that these things never happen?! Moreover, and let me stress this: when women share their personal experiences, you really have to butt in and be all like "sorry but I don't think this has happened" ?
nothing profound will ever involve a hashtag [editline]27th May 2014[/editline] hashtag wars are pointless
I am struggling to understand what this has to do with mass murder.
The guy was a fucking psycho. Treat him as one, don't over exaggerate the situation at hand. He was lonely as shit and he couldn't take that. Someone should have gotten him psychological support, for fucksake. Its not like his family didn't know about this before it happened so why not? This youtube comment ugh What the Actual Fuck, especially the last line. 6 People are fucking dead, Male too. You fucking idiot.
This entire hashtag war is just radicals from both ends crawling out of their holes to ignore the facts for the sake of grabbing attention while they can. Fuckin try to ignore them they'll be gone in a week or two.
Maddox posted about this whole massacre thing, I agree with him.
Mental health is sorely neglected. We put more focus on that and we'll be solving a metric crapton of issues in the world today.
Maddox posted about this whole massacre thing, I agree with him.
The worst part is that the cops got called on him because people found out about his mental state and they didn't search his house even though his mental state was known, through the forum posts and videos he made, and he was a registered gun owner. If they searched his house then they'd find out what he was planning. He even said so in the manifesto he wrote.
Maddox posted about this whole massacre thing, I agree with him.
To be honest, at this point in time, it seems like everyone has some sort of mental illness. May it be attention disorder or the thousands upon thousands of new psychological illness that are "discovered" every year, it's just hard to find perfectly cool headed people.
Maddox posted about this whole massacre thing, I agree with him.
Access to firearms is directly responsible for shootings, regardless if the person was mentally ill or not.
Access to firearms is directly responsible for shootings, regardless if the person was mentally ill or not.
They wouldn't find anything else to harm people with?
Oh man it's another wave of those "Things that never happen" twitters.
This sounds quite generalized, I hope you don't think that misogyny is something that only exists online or is made up. You should take a look into things such as EverydaySexism. Even if you don't personally think that none of it's true, it's still a very interesting read. http://everydaysexism.com/
I think people are missing the point. Sure, he had some mental issues but underneath that he had a lot of hate and in particular, hate for women. His whole manifesto is scary and obviously the vast majority of people don't feel like that (let alone act upon such feelings of hatred), but across the internet you see so many comments which resemble tiny snippets of his opinions - on news articles, forums, reddit, youtube comments etc. There are too many people, even if they are still a minority, who are defending his actions. That's what women find scary. The hastag is basically about how women feel right now.

That's half of what makes us unique. When it leads to thoughts of harming one's self, others around you or interferes with you living a somewhat normal life, some action needs to be taken however.
it's a youtube comment
But a real human bean wrote that youtube comment. And 14 people upvoted him.
Access to firearms is directly responsible for shootings, regardless if the person was mentally ill or not.
There was a guy in [del]london[/del] china who chopped up a ton of people with a big knife iirc. He didn't have any guns but he still killed a lot of people. Dailymail article because it's the first link http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2570996/At-27-dead-109-injured-gang-knife-wielding-men-attack-train-station-China.html
Instead of focusing on the fact that the guy had severe psychological issues, it's being pushed onto something else AGAIN. It wasn't even minor, watch his videos and read his manifesto, the guy was NOT stable. It wasn't even private too because the videos were publicly up on youtube. Nothing is going to stop, these people need help, help besides pills and medication. His hatred of women wasn't the cause, it was a byproduct. He hated anyone in a relationship. The kid had everything he wanted, he never had to work for anything. He was mildly attractive. He was rich. He was probably smart. If he wanted something, his dad could get it. This was the one thing he couldn't get without effort. He was obviously not right in the head and wasn't taught that you can't get everything.
But a real human bean wrote that youtube comment. How can anyone find anything positive in a comment that ends with "More Women have to Die."

It is a little scary.
why is it that scapegoating the mentally ill becomes acceptable when it comes to guns but talking about the people killed by the guns is using a tragedy to push an agenda [editline]26th May[/editline] and increased mental healthcare won't change the fact that a guy who was very blatantly mentally ill was still a registered gun owner
why is it that scapegoating the mentally ill becomes acceptable when it comes to guns but talking about the people killed by the guns is using a tragedy to push an agenda
This is not scapegoating the mentally ill. This is pointing out that people who are in a serverely unstable mental condition to the point where they will hurt other people need help and, if any, weapons taken away from them.
Access to firearms is directly responsible for shootings, regardless if the person was mentally ill or not.
Shall we ban knives, cars, planes, sidewalks, stairs, chairs and roofs? Because those are more likely to kill you than stumbling into a mass shooting. I mean don't get me wrong I don't see the appeal of civilians owning weaponry and don't really plan to but to say that violence stems from weapons alone is bullshit. If someone wants to get a gun, they'll get one regardless if they are restricted or not.

Everything else you listed has a defined purpose that isn't killing people (there's knives specifically for self defense but the variety of purposes is too broad to be considered for that alone). Restricting gun laws would honestly help prevent disasters like this, since where is a psychopathic shut-in most likely going to go for a gun? Grabbing one from a bunch of spooky crooks or just walking into their local gun store and buying a handgun?
