• Extremely shitty Portal 2 performance

I'm not sure why, but I'm getting about an entire 15 FPS in Portal 2. Compared to the 200ish I get on average in Garry's Mod. I should be able to do 60 at least. Graphics settings: http://puu.sh/1nEXc (lowering and raising doesn't affect the FPS dramatically - maybe 10 FPS difference between min and max settings. Specs: http://puu.sh/1nEZj Could it just be Windows 8? [editline]7th November 2012[/editline] If it helps, my lerp is yellow. I know in multiplayer that usually means the server's lagging. [editline]7th November 2012[/editline] It's not doing that constantly though.
Multicore rendering can do weird things. Make sure you have the latest updates, latest graphics drivers and run the directx web setup
I've tried updating my graphics driver. Could it just be that my system can't keep up? With Multicore Rendering enabled, I'm pulling 20 fps and 10 with it disabled.
Try setting your catalyst settings to default.
Try turning off MSAA & AA
Try turning off MSAA & AA
I have. [editline]11th November 2012[/editline]
Try setting your catalyst settings to default.
I'll try that.
Anything eating up your CPU/RAM in the background?
Nope. Plenty free of each. Less than 50% usage on each core.
No idea, it might be something to do with the source engine. Is there anything being printed in the console when this happens?
Nope. I'm not sure if it's the engine itself. It could be a Portal 2 engine-specific issue. I get a good 200-300 FPS in other Source games.
Try putting -dxlevel 98 in your launch options for Portal 2. This will reset everything to defaults for a Direct X 10 video card. Remove the -dxlevel after launching the game.
Worst comes to worst you could also try changing that to -dxlevel 80 but I'm not sure if it goes that far back with Portal 2, it does with the first Portal
Just for reference, this is what my 6850 plays at, I see you have the same/similar card. [thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/70157616/2012-11-15_00001.jpg[/thumb] Also, this is Windows 7. Also, 60fps at all times really.
