• Need help picking out a laptop for my mum

My mom's current computer is 6 years old and can't get much done anymore. She says she would like a laptop with a budget of $500. Please try to not go over this budget.
Just get any $500 computer, I seriously doubt she'll want to play games. Then again maybe you should look at macbooks on ebay, macbooks appeal to tech-illiterates
I want her to get the best laptop for her money. I don't see how games relate to anything.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3(0647-2AU) Black Intel Atom N455(1.66GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 160GB HDD Netbook - $290 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146766 Intel X25-V SSDSA2MP040G2R5 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - $120 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167025 Fast, portable, cheap, reliable, and a good 6 - 7 hours battery time. You can drop the SSD if you think that's a bit overkill, though load times is probably what's most important when talking about a small machine for tech-illiterates, and it'll give that laptop one heck of a speed boost. It'll run Microsoft Office, it'll do YouTube and facebook, and what the SSD lacks in storage, it brings up in speed, and if she really needs more than 40GB just get her an external.
Isn't external slower than internal? Also I think a netbook is pretty useless since she would like a screen that's big enough to see whats going on. Heres a small list of what she wants decent size hard drive such as 500gb, decent size monitor at least 17", ability to play high quality videos without stuttering, and ability to use just about any software without huge lag. I'm not trying to make you hit $500, but I want my mom to have a laptop that will last her a good 6 years or so.
I don't see why I would get her one in the first place.

Best thing to do is get a laptop that lives up to it's name, and is portable.
My mother has a Lenovo IdeaPad. DON'T. The touchpad is horrible and stupidly made. You can't select folders without the cursor going out of the window. It also takes like five minutes to boot. :ohdear:
I would've tough their IdeaPad's were as good as their other series, you know, the ones that could survive any type of beating.
So I guess you guess don't have any idea as to what laptop to get? How does this one look? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834107053 it also has very good reviews on the walmart site but is out of stock there
ThinkPads are better. I have one and threw Ubuntu on it and it runs like a dream.
Too bad they would be over the budget.
