• Windows 7 Starter: Black Wallpaper.

So great. I got a new netbook, cool stuffs, and then I notice when I open it, it says Windows 7 Starter, not XP. Thank you HP. You can't even change the wallpaper on Starter. Microsoft must be laughing their arses off on the people who bought this thing. I like the net book and stuff, but Windows 7 Starter is just a piece of shit. I would love to downgrade to XP, but I only have the upgrade this. Fan-fucking-tastic. The next day at school, I open my netbook and find a gloomy black screen glaring at me. The desktop was black, which meant It wasn't genuine. If it wasn't, HP would owe me some money. Yea my EEEPC has windows starter, I can't believe it won't let you change wallpapers Linux time :science:
Isn't there any way to change the wallpaper?
The desktop was black, which meant It wasn't genuine.
Only if it has a "This copy of Windows is not genuine" message in the lower right corner, otherwise you're fine (though wallpaper-deprived). [editline]07:57PM[/editline]
Isn't there any way to change the wallpaper?
There are ways but they're kind of hacky / require 3rd party software, google around and you'll find several.

[editline]05:59PM[/editline] Tell me some, StarDock My Colors is a piece of ----
Well, here's one you could try: http://www.withinwindows.com/2009/03/28/surprise-you-cant-change-your-wallpaper-in-windows-7-starter-edition/
As an Administrator, reset the permissions on img0.jpg, and overwrite file with picture of Mom.
img0.jpg is located at %windir%\web\wallpaper\windows\img0.jpg
So I delete the wallpaper then have another wallpaper and rename that to img0.jpg?
So I delete the wallpaper then have another wallpaper and rename that to img0.jpg?
Whoops, I guess not:
Resetting permissions on the file and overwriting will not work, as shell32.dll has code which compares the image with a SHA-256 hash. The only option other than tampering with the files yourself in a hex editor is using Stardock MyColors, though you must use an entire theme.
Pretty dick move by MS.
>:C Sigh....
Go to youtube and search "Windows 7 Ultimate key", and just plug it in to "Windows anytime upgrade". Yay for youtube?
I thought the starter wallpaper was the default Win 7 one anyway?
I thought the starter wallpaper was the default Win 7 one anyway?
It sort of is. It doesn't have as much detail.
The desktop was black, which meant It wasn't genuine. If it wasn't, HP would owe me some money. If you can't help me, rate Optimistic.
I had this when i got my Vista. I had to ring Microsoft and give them the code inside my Vista Install disc cover.. Then they gave me a code and all was well :downs:
I said screw it and bought W7 HP. Problem solved.
Switch to Linux man.
