Can a powerful PSU/GPU fry an old stock motherboard?

Title says it all, upgrading my PC atm, have a 500W Rosewill PSU and an ATI Radeon HD 4870 Sapphire, will it fry my stock HP motherboard.
Afaik the point of a PSU is to regulate power. The bigger the better. You should be fine.
I'm fairly sure that as long as the PSU connectors fit the motherboard you won't have a problem.
As for the video card, it shouldn't be a problem either, if it requires more power than the PCI-E slot can output it comes with Auxiliary power connectors that connect it to the power supply directly.
Note however that OEMs like to swap the ATX power pins around to make the motherboard blow up if you use any other PSU than their own
Dell likes to do this, not sure about HP

I replaced a HP PSU with an aftermarket one, it works fine.

Dell did this for a brief period of time, and only on specific models. But that was over a decade ago when they were doing that. The only other OEM that I think still might do it is Apple since they're so eccentric about their designs.
Thanks for the replies guys, now I feel safe about upgrading my pc :)
