• I returned an envelope containing $300 today: Feeling very good about myself

So as I was walking to work after school today, I decided to take a shorter way down a side road, instead of staying on the main highway. Just as I go to cross the street, something catches my eye: a white envelope with a red stamp, as well as an address on it. Normally, I wouldn't even consider picking up any old piece of paper off the ground, but this one seemed to have something in it - it was bulging. As I bent over to grab it, I realized that it was already partially ripped. This kind of made me lean towards the "open it" option. Lo and behold, six $50 bills are just sitting inside. 300 dollars, just sitting on the side of the road. Now, I could have stuck it in my pocket and walked away with it, but no. I knew my conscience would have gotten the better of me, so I decided to return the money. With a rather large debate going through my head, I headed towards the address marked on the envelope. Even as I approached the front steps I thought: "Just walk away, prom is coming and this could buy you a nice shirt & tie combo." But no. I just had to give it back. I knocked at the door, and waited, hoping nobody would answer. After what seemed like an eternity, I heard the bolt unlock. "Damn!" I thought, as the door swung open. An older gentleman answered the door, looking rather sleepy. "I'm sorry to bother you." I said, "but you seem to have lost this." As I handed him the envelope, his face absolutely lit up! "Thank you very much!" he said. "I've been looking for this." I smiled, and he shut the door on me. I'll admit, I was a little shocked, half expecting a reward, but just returning the money and making the guy smile was good enough. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside now. Cheers FP. :3:

Good job mang.
dumbass you should have just given him the money and kept the envelope
Wut.
The guy didn't even give you a reward? Not even a fucking cookie? Fuck man. The guy didn't even shake your hand. What an asshole.
When you die and go to hell you'll get $300 worth of ice-cream.
I would've taken the money.
"Thank you very much!" he said. "I've been looking for this." I smiled, and he shut the door on me.
This is all I could imagine though... :saddowns:
Well, was pretty much that, except he smiled as well. I was just like "Uhhh..."
You are a good person
He was looking for it inside his house? Wouldn't he have noticed if he lost it outside..
Snip
Congratulations, you just saved someone's day. Imagine losing $300 and then have some nice fellow return it to you. :buddy:
This is all I could imagine though... Oh, this reminds me of the time I was in elementary school, and I bought a cookie for 25 cents with a dollar from the lunch lady, and she gave me back 10 dollars, so I told her, and she gave me another cookie for telling. :3:
What kind of retarded lunch lady confused a $10 bill for 3 quarters.
it was probably ransom money for the baby he kidnapped, way to go op. should have bought mad weed with it
I would have just dropped $150 in his mailbox with a note saying "thanks for the 150, here's the rest" and then a smiley face. We both win!
Never send cash in the mail. Everybody should know that. That's what checks are for. Also, could have been drug money.
Cool, you just gave the drug dealer his money back from selling all that cocaine.
Wow really, if the only reason you did that was to receive a pat on the back, then why not just keep the money? Fact: OP is not a good person. He is only did this so he can feel better about himself. In other words, he really didn't give a shit about the old man. All he cared about was himself, and how the old man treated him afterwards.
...What the fuck is wrong with you?
are you out of your mind

I would kept the money. bought a new GPU or something
wow what a stupid move
Just shows how cold hearted you are. @OP It's better to keep the money and feel bad about it for a long time, than to give the money and feel good that you did something right. If I could, I would rate you a million hearts.
dude what the fuck?
Have you ever heard of "altruism?" Like maybe how it doesn't exist? Search it up. For every donation, every act of good will, every anonymous aid there is a selfish motive behind it. Example: I donated $10 to the Salvation Army today. Why? Because it makes me feel "selfless," it makes me feel that I'm a benevolent, kind-hearted member of society. My peers will look at me and say, "Wow, that guy is pretty cool, he's willing to give money to children in Africa because he cares!" Wrong. I don't care. Why would I care about some kid I don't know? I'm doing it for myself, and myself only. http://bartwilson.blogspot.com/2005/10/does-altruism-exist.html ^ Interesting Article. Go write an essay on it.
