Man shoots himself, doesn't notice until days later
Only after changing shirts did he see stains from blood seeping through the fabric.
Sheriff’s deputies later determined that Blevins, 37, accidentally shot himself while cleaning a handgun in the living room of his Florida home, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
Blevins stood up while cleaning the .22 caliber pistol before feeling his back “lock up,” according to deputies’ report. Blevins had suffered a back injury before. Still took medicine for it.
The sharp pain caused Blevins' back to give out. He fell face-down into the edge of a glass coffee table, according to the News-Journal.
Then he heard a gunshot.
But where did the bullet go? Besides a cut above his left eyebrow from the coffee table, he felt nothing.
How the fuck
Florida natives can be pretty tough I guess.
Drugs are bad
I broke arm once and didn't notice it for a week :v:
It was on the third day that Blevins took off his shirt.
gross

In your own article.
Then he put on a light brown shirt, noticed his own blood and found the injury: Blevins could see where the bullet entered his left arm and where it exited, according to the News-Journal. It had cauterized, deputies later recounted, and was barely bleeding.
florida man strikes again.
No matter how many times I see it, I can't help but chuckle at the 'I was cleaning it when it went off' stories.

.22, that's how.
the most shocking part of this story is that it took no less than 3 days for him to change his shirt
.22, that's how.
You'll still feel that, if you're not on meth.
I'd say he got off lucky with it only hitting his arm.
i can assure you even on meth it would be hard not to notice that you got shot, you would have to be high as the fucking sky on benzos and opiates and god knows what else for this to pass. considering he had back problems and was taking medication it is quite likely that he was indeed on opiates since they often get prescribed to people with back pains.

Seriously how do you forget to empty your gun before cleaning it?
it isn't especially uncommon for people to not notice they've been shot until some time later. a .22 is small enough and quick enough at that range, and that he probably had opiates in his system and a adrenaline rush from falling face first into a coffee table, that it probably only felt like a pressure sensation. there's not much stopping power anyways behind a .22 and if it only has flesh to sail through there's no reason for it to have any kick to it.
For those of you who didn't read the article, he takes back for his back problems that numbed the pain from the bullet.
What moron cleans a loaded gun?
What moron cleans a loaded gun?
the same moron that doesn't take a shirt off for 3 days straight

well, he IS from Florida...
Really though how fucking hard is it to check if your gun is loaded? Just look through the barrel from the back and if you see light you're good. and of coarse the obvious remove the fucking clip.

You know, if you wanna be smug about pistol knowledge, you should really refrain from calling the magazine, a clip :v:

During the First Gulf War my father was shot in the neck with a round from an AK. He didn't even notice until he got back to base and someone told him he was covered in blood. He thought it was just sweat.

If you can look through the barrel of the gun from the back that means the gun can't fire in the first place

Unless you know, you don't take the post 100% literally and realize what he meant was checking the chamber and not literally looking through a hole through the rear of the gun.

I dunno. I bet if you're thick enough, you may not feel a .22 enter your fatty arm over excruciating sharp back pain that sent you face first into a table

Have you ever heard of shock? And even the synopsis says he was on painkillers for a previous back injury

You don't. You play around with your loaded pistol like an idiot, accidentally shoot yourself, and then say 'oh I was cleaning it and it went off' because most people don't know any better than to question it. You can't even clean most handguns without at least partial disassembly.
'I was cleaning it and it went off' is code for 'I did something stupid and don't want to admit it'.

The idea of cleaning a loaded weapon is stupid in and of itself.

Not to brag but I've seen someone almost blow their hand off from not checking on a break open shotgun, no mag just didn't bother to even open the gun before cleaning

Which is why you always check the chamber when picking up a gun. Every time, without exception.
