While details are still few and far between, Tom’s has learned that ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda will officially announce Elder Scrolls Online in May 2012. An industry source that wishes to remain anonymous revealed the name of the new MMO to us, and confirmed that the game would take place a full millennium before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Using the Elder Scrolls Wiki timeline as a guide, Elder Scrolls Online will likely take place during the “Second Era,” or several hundred years before any of the other Elder Scrolls games. This information was corroborated by two additional sources before publication. Elder Scrolls Online will have three playable factions, according to the tipster. Not much is known about the factions, except each is represented by one of three animals: A lion, a dragon, and a bird of prey (either a phoenix or an eagle, we aren’t sure). A May 2012 announcement would likely be followed by some sort of presence at E3, the annual Los Angeles video game convention. The game will also be shown at Quakecon 2012 in August, along with id Software’s Doom 4 and several other titles. The fact that ZeniMax and Bethesda are working on an MMO is hardly a secret, as related job postings have been on ZeniMax’s website for quite some time now. What remained unknown until now was the universe in which this MMO would take place. While some were certainly hoping for a Fallout MMO of some sort - a game that ZeniMax and Bethesda control the publishing rights for – that is not to be the case. When Tom’s reached out for confirmation, the response from ZeniMax and Bethesda was a “no comment.” We will update this article as more information comes in.
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/ZeniMax-Bethesda-Elder-Scrolls-Online-MMO,news-14481.html Most likely bullshit but you never know, it'd most likely be incredibly successful if it turns out to be real.
I honestly wouldn't mind, I'm surprised they haven't already.
Here we go.

As long as it plays like an actual Elder Scrolls game, I'll be happy.
eugh.
I don't really know what to think right now. If its not free to play I certainly won't be playing it.
Eh, I would rather see a Fallout MMO rather than an Elder Scrolls one, but I'm looking forward to it all the same.
concentrate on making elder scrolls VI instead
Oh, great. Another MMO where level 1 elf chicks are going to be dancing on mailboxes in their underwear while begging for gold. [t]http://arwenevecom.ipage.com/Skyrim/Images/Female_Bosmer_Composite.jpg[/t] okay maybe not
Fuck! No! I'll pay double for the next fallout if it's improved to the scale of Skyrim vs oblivion. Just dear god no!
Instead of making a mmo make skyrim CO-OP
How about you get to work on Fallout 4 since you abandoned the rest?
I for one, will happily play this and buy it if it's good. I'll make an argonian lustymaid character then start annoying everyone that joins
Instead of making a mmo make skyrim CO-OP
Make it exactly like Skyrim, only with giant servers and all of tamriel to explore. And perma-death.
Make it exactly like Skyrim, only with giant servers and all of tamriel to explore. And perma-death.
Perma death? I better get some extra keyboards
As long as it looks, and plays like any other Elder Scrolls game i'd be excited about it.
you know that won't happen
Make it exactly like Skyrim, only with giant servers and all of tamriel to explore. And perma-death.
Perma-death is only fun in roguelikes.
I hope they don't dumb it down to random button smashing or make it a shitty Wow clone.
If it's that long before the other games, maybe we'll get more on the Dwemer. I might look into this, assuming it's real.
Make it the same way as Elder Scrolls, I don't want an MMO based on the lore thanks.
If it turns out to be monthly pay fees forget it, they're not too understanding with the population when they set prices for games and whatnot. Now if it were a one-time payment like any other game... Certainly a debatable decision.
Don't know why anyone wouldn't want this; if it's done properly I can see it killing WoW and bringing much needed innovation into the mmo genre
Sounds stupid but I feel like if there's any ES game that is perfect for MMO material, it's Morrowind. Something about that game just screams "This would also play well as an mmo". I'm not talking about the lore, I'm talking about the engine & mechanics.
Don't know why anyone wouldn't want this; if it's done properly I can see it killing WoW and bringing much needed innovation into the mmo genre
Cool but stop relating all MMOs to WoW. The MMO industry isn't about "killing WoW". On top of that, it's 2012, constantly talking about WoW like it's the devil is on the same level as Chuck Norris jokes.
I was just discussing what an Elder Scrolls MMO would be like with a friend recently, better be good

If it plays like Skyrim or DMoMM, it'll make so much cash.
I really don't think this will go anywhere, assuming that it is true. If even WoW is supposedly bleeding players to the onslaught of new F2P games, then I don't see an Elder Scrolls MMO taking off. We'll see, I suppose!
