• Voltage Problems?

I just thought to get opinions on this after my PC randomly shutdown out of nowhere. I've been running this system since July '07 with no problems, but I always noticed in NVMonitor my voltages were in the red. Speedfan backs these readings up. It seems like the voltages are way off of what they should be. After doing a few minutes of research, I also installed Sensors Viewer, and it's measurements are different as well. Is there something wrong with my system? NOTES: -This is a cheap, generic PSU that I bought before I knew how to buy PSUs. It's probably a good idea to replace this anyway. Thoughts and suggestions? -The chipset drivers are the ones that came with the mobo. Everytime I try to update them, my OS dies and I have to revert to a restore point. (IIRC, that may not be it, but I know it breaks something) -This isn't the best OS installation in the world, I should upgrade and/or reinstall but I keep putting it off due to not wanting to reinstall everything SPECS: Windows XP MCE 2002, with SP3 and all updates EVGA nForce 650i Ultra Core 2 Duo E7400 2GB Generic RAM (also bought before I knew how to buy parts) EVGA GeForce 9600 GSO (rebranded 8800gs) 320GB WD Caviar HDD(WD anyway, I think it was caviar though)
replace the psu if it's a cheap one. also buying generic ram isn't bad. buy some $3 heat spreaders if it doesn't already have any and that will run like top dollar shit Edit: Especially if that generic ram is made by gskill or something, then the shit's actually pretty decent.
Any PSU recommendations?
I don't have a specific one, but I'd go for one that meets the following expectations: - Have modular cables - Dual fans (LEDs are optional) - 500W or higher - 12+ Rail have a 30A rating or higher
I had a power supply start undervolting my parts, and causing my computer to shut down randomly. Do any of your games run worse than they should? It's a good indicator that those readings are correct. Your problem is almost definitely the power supply.
1.47v for such a cpu would be quite high, right? even if I'd overclock my i5 from 2.66ghz to 4ghz, I wouldn't need that much. also binary, is 2 fans necessary?
also binary, is 2 fans necessary?
It's not necessary, but it does help increase the airflow rate of your computer for quite a bit.
right now I'm looking at one of these three: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371022 Probably going to go with one of the corsairs. (Just noticed they aren't modular, though. Might go with the Antec after all)
You could try looking at this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171036 it's modular, and high efficiency, I'm not sure whether it has the right connectors though, you'll have to look at it yourself
