This must be one of the worst renamings of a service ever. Really? "Blizzard Tech". Come on.
Battle.net flows so well though.
BATTAL, NET. BATTAL, NET.
Now the word battle sounds weird
BATTLE BATLE BATTLE BATTLL?

I don't see what's so bad about it?

do people not realize they're not renaming it to blizzard tech
just not going to encompass everything in the "battle.net" name anymore?
like the article and blizzard's post says?
bad reading x 2
From what I understood they are just going to refer to it as something else but it's still called Battle.net? You could just explain what they were trying to say instead of writing bad reading, :v: I'm not sure if I clearly understood what they said and I read the articles.
We’re going to be transitioning away from using the Battle.net name for our gaming service and the functionality connected to it.
The whole post is worded a bit vaguely.

???
I'm just asking why people think Blizzard Tech is a bad choice of name chill
bad reading x 1
Read the blizzard post and see how they vaguely state they're moving away from the Battle.net name. Hello?
“Over time, though, we’ve seen that there’s been occasional confusion and inefficiencies related to having two separate identities under which everything falls—Blizzard and Battle.net. Given that built-in multiplayer support is a well-understood concept and more of a normal expectation these days, there isn’t as much of a need to maintain a separate identity for what is essentially our networking technology.”
The sentimentalist in me is a bit sad to see it go, but really, it's amazing this didn't happen years ago. Battle.net was an evocative name for a unique service two decades ago, but these days, with publisher-centric platforms like Steam, Origin, and Uplay dominating the landscape, it's really just a quaint reminder of how things used to be.
lol, this is so stupid, both what the author of the article wrote and what Blizzard decided to do.
Nobody has a problem understanding who Steam, Origin or Uplay belong to, despite none of these mentioning the name of the company in their title. And Battle.net is just as memorable as these, especially due to the games of the past 2 decades that are associated with it.
"Blizzard Tech" is orders of magnitudes more clumsy, ambiguous and forgettable than Battle.net ever was, and it throws away any fond memories people had associated with the old name.
I wonder what kind of brilliant suit came up with this move. I hope he gets a promotion.

Well dude, idk about you but I pretty much interpret this sentence:
We’re going to be transitioning away from using the Battle.net name for our gaming service and the functionality connected to it.
as:
We will no longer use the name Battle.net in the future
Since the gaming service and its functionality is pretty much encompasses the entirety of Battle.net
Just call it Blizzard, there'll you go. Remove the tech and you can be as closely tied to your brand name as you can be.
bad reading x 1
I read the article. Twice.
They're getting rid of the name as far as the article explains.
You should read it again.
They haven't announced the new name, people keep saying that it'll be renamed to blizzard tech.
"Blizzard Tech", seriously? It sounds like the name of some indian phone scammer's company :v:
Fucking PCGamer. That title needs a correction, people keep thinking "blizzard tech" is the actual, literal name. It's not.
Fucking PCGamer. That title needs a correction, people keep thinking "blizzard tech" is the actual, literal name. It's not.
Not even PC Gamer understood what Blizzard said? :v:
Blizzard tech is a mouth full
Battle.net has pedigree and has been known by the gamer community for a long time idk why you would change it
I thought the actual name wasnt going to be "blizzard tech" but thats the term they're going to use for all their tech/networking shit.
So their streaming, voice and battle.net all count as "Blizzard Tech"
Why would you drop a 20 year old name that's well known? Hell, the name battle.net is older then most of Blizzard's current user base.
Muscle memory is going to be a bitch if they actually go through with this rename.
So they're switching from making games to making machines that create Blizzards then? Blizzard Technology.

See people this is why you read the article. Finally someone gets it.
I really don't get why
I mean, Steam is an application by Valve, they don't call it Valve tech or valve anything.
Origin by EA, and Uplay by Ubisoft.
Battle.net is fine, literally none of the aforementioned applications have their company's name in the title.
Knowing how Google have once ranked their domain results (Valve.software, E3 2015)

There is SEO that China can capitalise on
"Battlenet" is easy to say and "bnet" is quick to write.
Not sure why they want to get away from it.
Maybe it'll be Blizzard Net so they can keep Bnet?
