EA filtering non-5 star ratings for Dungeon Keeper
80 replies, posted
EA is making it harder to leave any ratings that are less than five stars on its mobile re-imagining of Dungeon Keeper.
Despite numerous negative reviews from the games industry, the game has an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars on the Google Play store thanks to some filtering methods employed by publisher EA Mobile.
When prompted for a rating on the game, players are given the option of leaving a 5 star rating, or a 1-4 star rating. Whilst the 5 star option takes players to Google Play to leave the rating as one would expect, selecting the latter option takes players to a different feedback screen asking 'what would it take to make Dungeon Keeper a 5-star game?' which only contains the options to email EA or skip the rating process.
What a load of bollocks
keep being a bunch of children EA
what the fuck
this can't be legal, it's like the WarZ all over again
"I rate this game 1 star, additional stars can be purchased for $4.99 each"
EA is desperate.
Doesn't surprise me, given this article on the BBC I read the other day about EA's Dungeon Keeper.
In case no one saw it, here's a particularly delightful excerpt:
In an interview on Tab Times EA said that the number of five star reviews the game had on the App Store and Google Play showed how popular it was.
However, in response, many people pointed out that Dungeon Keeper currently had a rating of 0.3 out of 10 on crowd-sourced review site Metacritic. Many of those posting reviews and comments on Metacritic decried how much it cost to get gems to complete some elements of the game quickly.
Keep on keeping on, EA.
:v:
EA is desperate.
Desperate to keep shitty reputation, yeah.
Even Peter Molyneux is fuming regarding how EA has handled it all, including the design of the mobile game.
And EA did it all in the name of emone.
This is impressive even by EA's standard.
They're probably getting negative ratings just because they came out as pro-LGBT, remember?
I couldn't have imagined a worse possible sequel to one of my favourite games :/

EA was voted the worst company in America and blamed their terrible rating on anti-LGBT campaigners voting them down.
The standards of your posts are alarmingly low.
He's being sarcastic, referring to an interview where some EA cuntwad claimed the reason they get so much flak is because they're pro-LGBT.

EA being pro-LGBT is the only positive thing about EA nowadays.
this is horseshit. what a bunch of money whores.

Talk about delusions of grandeur on a whole new scale.

Peter Moore said it was a part of the backlash and there was proof that atleast some right-wing groups were unhappy with their stance. In the same article you link he admits EA made plenty of mistakes.
Business as usual for EA.

Here is what he said:

The thing where he made mistakes is just him trying to be modest, followed by denial of EA's problems and a PR whitewash.

Is stating factual statements a "PR whitewash" when it's a company you don't like doing the talking? Some folks on Free Republic (a crazy right-winger forum) posted a thread asking for people to vote for EA because of their "gay agenda". Seems like a reasonable point to make in ones defense.
I'm just not seeing this narrative that anyone from EA ever used their LGBT stance as an excuse for all the criticisms. It's just blatantly untrue even going off what you have linked so far.

How is this not PR whitewash?

Every day, millions of people across globe play and love our games – literally, hundreds of millions more than will vote in this contest.
So here’s my response to this poll: We can do better. We will do better. But I am damn proud of this company, the people around the globe who work at EA, the games we create and the people that play them.
The tallest trees catch the most wind. At EA we remain proud and unbowed.
You realize that lots of tech companies are pro-LGBT and yet they are not voted worst company in America, just EA. I don't know the exact number of people who voted in this poll, but I'd imagine the number of homophobs is small. Plus if you didn't know anything and wanted to vote a pro-LGBT company as the worst company in America, is EA really the first you'd vote for?
Can't really link some small fringe group voting and expect they had a large impact on the polls.
golden poo time
What is he supposed to say as part of an official statement? "Yeah our games are shit and we are quitting the business"? No, he said he was proud of the company despite problems they had and that they could do better. It's a general PR statement.
This is off topic anyway. My main point was that your narrative didn't hold. It doesn't need to be a majority but if there is solid proof that a few people got together and decided to vote for EA purely because of their LGBT stance then it's entirely reasonable for EA to cite that as one of the reasons for why they "won", and it's entirely disingenuous to take that statement and twist it to create this narrative that EA thinks they "won" purely based on that alone and in so doing are disregarding criticism because its homophobic or whatever.
As for what people were thinking when they voted, I'm not sure. It's a dumb irrelevant consumer poll. The fact that people voted for EA over companies like Bank of America speaks to how important it is.
isnt it illegal to hide negative reviews of a product? its basically false advertising.
"We're surprised to be the worst company. We'll try to be better"

Well there are lots of pro-LGBT companies, there is LITERALLY no reason to think that the majority of homophobes would just vote EA without knowing about EA's business practices. it seems he used the fact that EA won the worst company in America poll (or were going to) to advertise that they were LGBT and some people voted for them because of that.
Another main issue was that he downplayed legitimate problems people have, such as the always on DRM or the microtransactions, which personally got me mad. If he admitted that always on DRM and microtransactions are a problem for EA then this wouldn't have happened, its as simple as that.
What it boiled down to was:
"We're not going to take being voted worst company in America as a sign that our business decisions are terrible, we're going to justify our poor choices and turn it around to advertise our pro-LGBT stance"
