Commercial jets carrying hundreds of people had to be diverted in mid-air or else prevented from taking off to avoid potential collisions with two Russian bear bombers which “cloaked” their presence during their latest incursion into Irish-controlled airspace.

The Irish Examiner can reveal that the Tu-95 bombers, which flew just 40km off the coast, criss-crossed into major civilian airline traffic lanes, including incoming flights from North America on February 18.

[t]http://media.central.ie/media/images/z/zzzTu95BearHShadowedByTyphoon_large.jpg[/t]
Putin is showing his bears again. You forgot the source.
Why are they practicing stealth-bombing Ireland? If the west went to war with Russia, why bother bombing Ireland? [editline][/editline] That passenger plane looks really tinny.
That would be extremely strange just looking out a window and just see a Russian bomber.
Putin really wants to get one of he's planes shot down doesnt he ? So he can tell he's brainwashed Supporters that it was the wests ''fault''
This is like the fourth time in 3 weeks that russia is provoking. I dont know maybe they did it more times but i stopped counting.
Imagine if they had collided. Putin, can you please leave us civilians out of your tiny dick waving exercises?
Putin really wants to get one of he's planes shot down doesnt he ? So he can tell he's brainwashed Supporters that it was the wests ''fault''
It seems so, but I doubt us throwing a few potatoes at his planes will do much.
I might want to keep my eyes to the sky I might see a russian bear for the scrap book! I already hear fast-air every so often from Eurofighter craft.
Imposing fear on innocent civilians, what a nice president, I approve him 140% all the way.
I say next time he does something like this, we nuke his ass and every ally off the face of the earth. Shit, I gotta learn to be more over the top. (User was banned for this post ("trolling" - GunFox))

[editline][/editline] That passenger plane looks really tinny.
Being on the fringes of Europe, Ireland doesn't have many defences - or even an airforce that could combat Russia bombers. Maybe in the event of war they would try to turn Ireland into a giant base to block US support and strike Western Europe?
I say next time he does something like this, we nuke his ass and every ally off the face of the earth.
lol billions of people dying, at least we nuked them ruskies.....
lol billions of people dying, at least we nuked them ruskies.....
At least then our great pilots will fly the airspaces unharmed.
I say next time he does something like this, we nuke his ass and every ally off the face of the earth.
Ever heard of Mutual Assured Destruction?
At least then our great pilots will fly the airspaces unharmed.
except no because their airbases (and pretty much everywhere else) would be radioactive craters in less than 5 minutes after your nukes were launched
except no because their airbases (and pretty much everywhere else) would be radioactive craters in less than 5 minutes after your nukes were launched
only if you're a commie
Yes Putin is showing off their most modern bombers again, these things are about as old as the AK-47.
Probably just Irish self-defence groups practising with one of their heavy bombers, nothing to see here
Yes Putin is showing off their most modern bombers again, these things are about as old as the AK-47.
They are basically a contemporary design to B-52, and pretty much just as capable as a B-52, and these are still in active service with US Air Force. Strategic bombers like these don't really age that much. They are basically big fat cargo planes. Except the cargo is raw death.
Very interesting to see what happens when something like this goes wrong (ie aircraft is shot down) whether it be in Asia or somewhere in a European country in NATO. I know a lot of militaries have sophisticated detection equipment and coordination between aircraft is generally top notch, but fuckups do happen.
Why are they practicing stealth-bombing Ireland? If the west went to war with Russia, why bother bombing Ireland? [editline][/editline] That passenger plane looks really tinny.
I don't think anyone who's heard a tu-95 would consider it stealthy. Still its rather interesting they seem primarily focused on Britain as opposed to any other countries in europe [editline]3rd March 2015[/editline]
except no because their airbases (and pretty much everywhere else) would be radioactive craters in less than 5 minutes after your nukes were launched
Takes about an hour for a first strike exchange, with the traditional quoted window between launch and detection being 30 minutes or so, so back in the cold war we had bombers constantly in the air and others ready to take off on 5 minute notice
Yes Putin is showing off their most modern bombers again, these things are about as old as the AK-47.
So are B52's and they're going to be used til 2050, they just keep upgrading them.
Still its rather interesting they seem primarily focused on Britain as opposed to any other countries in europe
I don't think this is the case, Scandinavian airspace is violated by the Russians just as often.
Out of sheer curiosity, what would happen if one of these incursions actually ended up with a passenger jet going down with all aboard dying. I mean, Russia would be held FULLY responsible, because that's purely the truth of it. What I'm wondering is what would be done about it?

I would definitely at this point just open fire on a Russian jet flying over a foreign airspace: it was not as bad when flying over more eastern countries but going so far west as Ireland? This really needs to stop. And what is he going to do, declare war on all of Europe? Just get the conflict over with and nip this ass-holery in the bud before he gets over-confident and decides that he can do more than just roll his military unannounced into everyone's backyard
Does Ireland even have any jets [editline]3rd March 2015[/editline] fighter jets that is

This has been standard practice since the Cold War, both sides act ignorant of the other's bullshit to make the other one think they are beating their ability to detect shit. We'll never truly know which side has better tech until it is really needed. After the first punch is throw.
