• New Computer; Random Lock Ups

I recently built a new computer, and it locks up randomly relatively soon after getting to my desktop. Around five minutes at most before it locks. It doesn't seem to happen during anything in particular. I can be trying to install a program, browsing the internet, or opening Steam and it can happen. I have tried a MemTest+ test and it yielded no problems. Specs: Mobo: EVGA P55 Sli Graphics Card: XFX 5870 Processor: i5 750 RAM: G.Skill 4GB DDR3 1600 PSU: Corsair 750TX HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit If you've got any possible solutions, I'm all ears.
Only thing I can think about is checking your temperatures. However it's extremely unlikely to be an overheating problem, since the PC's brand new... And it should also make it reboot, not freeze it.
Yeah, the temperature of everything according to the BIOS is around 40 degrees celcius. I don't think that is the problem either.
Tried installing new drivers?
I installed all the drivers given to me on disks such as from the motherboard and graphics card. I haven't checked for a more recent motherboard one. I got the most recent driver for my 5870, though I hear a big new driver is due out for it in the next couple days. Maybe that could solve a problem? Are there any other important drivers I should be aware of?
I had the same thing some time ago,but it happened when I tried to install Windows 7 on an existing computer that was running Vista for months with no problems. Fixed it by updating BIOS. [editline]07:23PM[/editline] I have a different motherboard though,so it might not help.

Updated the BIOS, but it still locks up.
Check ram settings. If they're on auto, see the sticks for information and do a manual setup in bios.
I think we may have the same problem. Does it just lock up, like the Loading Circle or Whatever 7 has just stops spinning, everything stops responding?

Do things work fine in safe mode? I would try and get updated drivers if at all possible. If that doesn't work, just try stripping each part one by one (starting with non critical stuff like sound cards) until your system becomes stable again. Then you find your problem.
I fixed the problem. Windows 7 updated some stuff, rebooted, and I haven't locked up since. I guess I got lucky.
