The.. The amount of new trailers is fucking with my brains! Still waiting for skyrim..
I am disappoint.
That... is not XCOM. But, I guess it looks like it could be a decent shooter.
I hope they work on the graphics, everything looks too clean and lacks details.
Looks okay. I like visuals and the alien design as well as the general setting. I'm rather concerned about the gameplay though, seeing as this comes from the team behind Bioshock- a series with rather unsatisfying combat.
I hope they work on the graphics, everything looks too clean and lacks details.
They're going for a stylized look in case you didn't know. I think it looks pretty sweet.
That is not X-Com AT ALL. Looks more like Sci-fi FPS #231 set in the 50s. Nothing to write home about whatsoever. I bet it doesn't even have the original aliens that X-Com had.
Sectoids and Cyberdisks are where it's at.
I want my X-COM back. The one with isometric and such. At least make FPS optional and leave the isometric RTS-style turn/real-time battle optional too so one fights however he freaking wants? I dunno.
I thought it looked cool. I've come to grips that this isn't the X-COM games I grew up with. I'm judging it for what it is, and it looks pretty cool. Squad-based gameplay is good, and hopefully it will take some features from the originals, such as base management and other stuff. The trailer seemed to imply the game had it, but I hope it is under your control and not strictly a linear progression.
If it's one thing I hate in a game, it's controlling a squad of NPC's.

They want a unique style for the game, and if they went with the orginal style it would look even more generic (space marine lookling dudes vs grey aliens). The market for that genre is almost nonexistant.
I see... a horribly modelled sherman tank.
fucck 2kgaymes

This isn't a re-imagining. This is simply a complete destruction of the IP.
That will never happen. does it really have to look like shit
this just doesn't look good, why even bother calling it XCOM. Just make it a new brand. Well, maybe they can pull this o-
which is created by some of the guys behind Bioshock 1&2
okay everyone go home it's going to be shit
Is this going to be Linear ala most fps's this generation or will you be able to choose where and when to deploy at all?
Unbelievable how boring and uninspired that looks. Even if it weren't for the butchering of XCOM and had a different name. Do not want.
I still find it hilarious how people take this shit so seriously.
I remember reading an article about this a year ago and being somewhat excited by the prospects, it sounded like it would have elements of L.A. Noire's investigations with base and squad management. Maybe this is just a trailer that's trying to hype the combat aspects. Eh one can hope anyway.
So they turned it into a FPS? Looks like those "Area 51" games. Aka: Generic sci-fi alien shooter.

It just seems like they made this generic looking alien shooter and couldn't decide a name for it, so they just slapped the X-Com name onto it as a quick fix. That is not what a true X-Com game is. One of the devs said that X-Com was about the mystery and the terror of scouting out the aliens. It wasn't even about that either. It was about maneuvering your troops defensively to combat the alien threat while also managing your squad, your funds, and your equipment.
Wasn't there a third-person XCOM with black slime instead of the prisms? I seem to remember a trailer for a third person XCOM a year or so ago.
Wasn't there a third-person XCOM with black slime instead of the prisms? I seem to remember a trailer for a third person XCOM a year or so ago.
It had the black slime as well as the Prism enemies. At the end of that trailer it ripped a guy apart.
I don't understand this necromancy of the ip when the consumes for this sort of game probably never hasn't even heard of or doesn't like the original series so it does them no good for publicity or fanbases It's like groping corpses without any pleasure they should make it like LA NOIRE but with fighting researching aliens.

So far what we've seen is you doing the combat, but bear in mind E3 hasn't started yet, so I'm sure they're saving a bunch of stuff for that. I'm sure we can expect to see a demonstration of the R&D and Tactical portion of which I am going to assume is controlling AI teammates like Brothers in Arms would. The atmosphere of the game isn't too bad either. Almost like a mixture of Men in Black and Ghostbusters but with a bit of a dark and bitter undertone. Also, I am sure that most of you that played the original XCOM have imagined what the game would have been like in a first person perspective.

Given how much people want to see it compared to the jack shit that they have shown of it, I tend to imagine they don't have crap for metagame. Furthermore procedurally generated first person missions are damn near impossible to get right. And on top of all of that, a massive portion of XCOM was the terrain destruction. Blowing holes in the side of a UFO or lighting shit on fire. It even had strategic considerations because blowing up stuff in the UFO meant less alien artifacts. Less alien artifacts meant less money or research opportunities. All that said, if they can just manage to get the metagame right, I will forgive just about any flaws with the tactical combat. So if they DO manage to pull it off, I will be pleased. But for the time being, the outlook is not good.
The atmosphere of the game isn't too bad either. Almost like a mixture of Men in Black and Ghostbusters but with a bit of a dark and bitter undertone.
We will see how it plays out. I'm not writing it off, but XCOM had an unusually good atmosphere.
Also, I am sure that most of you that played the original XCOM have imagined what the game would have been like in a first person perspective.
Awesome? They had T-rexes with guns. Also chrysalids? They would be fucking TERRIFYING in first person. There Instead we have guys in awkward suits using grease guns. Aside from the fact that there is no point in history where a US special operations unit would truly have preferred grease guns, they also lack the iconic armor variants from the original game. That blue battle armor simply has to make an appearance.
I always thought an XCOM FPS would be something like SWAT 4 with aliens. I am hugely disappointed.
I always thought an XCOM FPS would be something like SWAT 4 with aliens. I am hugely disappointed.
There have only been two trailers so far. Calm down.
That blue battle armor simply has to make an appearance.
That would be nice, but I don't think the art styles would mesh so well if they did a pure translation. I have a feeling they are going to skew it around with the 50's look if they do have it in.
