A photo of a New York City police officer kneeling down to give a barefoot homeless man in Times Square a pair of boots on a cold November night is melting even the iciest New Yorkers' hearts online.
On Nov. 14, NYPD officer Lawrence DePrimo, who was on counterterrorism duty in Times Square, saw the older homeless man without shoes sitting on 42nd Street. DePrimo, 25, left and then returned with a pair of $100 boots he bought at a nearby Skechers store.
"It was freezing out, and you could see the blisters on the man's feet," DePrimo, a three-year veteran of the department who lives with his parents on Long Island, told the New York Times. "I had two pairs of socks, and I was still cold."
The random act of kindness was captured by Jennifer Foster, a tourist from Florence, Ariz., who was visiting the city. Foster, communications director for the Pinal County Sheriff's Office in Arizona, emailed the photo to the NYPD with a note commending DePrimo.
"The officer said, 'I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let's put them on and take care of you,'" Foster wrote. "The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man.
"I have been in law enforcement for 17 years," she continued. "I was never so impressed in my life. ... It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost."
Foster's photo was posted on the NYPD's Facebook page on Tuesday, where it received more than 320,000 "likes," 77,000 "shares" and 20,000 comments—most of them praising DePrimo, who seems to have restored Facebook's faith in humanity.
"This is one hell of a police officer," Desiree Wright-Borden wrote.
"Wow," Jack Horton wrote. "It's nice to know there are still good people out there."
"Angels truly do walk on earth!!!" Charlene Hoffman-Pestell wrote.
Some commenters, though, were skeptical, saying the photo could have been staged.
"Clever stunt!" Louis Zehmke wrote. "The hobo is 'parked' at the entrance of a shoe shop."
But Foster claims DePrimo had no idea he was being photographed: "The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching."
What a nice guy, nice to know someone seen his good deed.
Why the hell did this get a dumb rating?

Probably the same reason people rate "funny" for horrific events.
Also, the OP is missing a source. I'd like it so I can show my friend the article

Something so small for something so magnificent. There will always be faith in humanity wherever you look.
True lad.
Too bad that this happens so rarely, that we all think it's magnificent when it finally happens once. This should actually be common practise.

This happens more often than you'd think man, just no one wants to hear about the police officer, fireman, paramedic who does their job well and demonstrates the good in people, overall we just want to hear shit that confirms our negative beliefs about these types of people, especially police officers.
But yeah man, guy done a good thing, nice to hear about this sort of stuff.
been reading about this all day. things like this never make it into the news.

only once in a while so they can counter all the negative shit they put on there

Amen to that.
I think most people, even those who don't commit random acts of generosity, are still fantastic and warm people. But, it doesn't always seem that way because people are strange when you're a stranger, faces look ugly when you're alone. Women seem wicked when you're unwanted, streets are uneven when you're down.
Hearthwarming.

The media don't care, bad news give more ratings.
Chances are it was a slow news day so they decided to publish this.
your tax dollars at work
Stupid people are thinking this is a stunt or a hoax. Wish people would get their heads out of their own asses and see that are decent law enforcement and emergency service personal out there.
I love humanity sometimes.
Strip him of his badge!
I cried a single tear of joy.
Now, everyone reading - do the same as much as you can afford to

Just kind of weird that they're right outside a shoe store.
It's sad that people are calling this staged, and the comments on some news stories continue to be heavily anti-police. When I doubt those people in their life have given to charity let alone buy boots and socks for a shoeless homeless man on the street.
Officer DePrimo is a shining example of what being a police officer is all about. Many officers would have done the same, but he was just in the 'right spot at the right time' to have it hit the headlines.
Good job Officer DePrimo, and be safe out there brother!

Maybe he brought him there to get fitted? Or him sitting by the shoe store gave the officer the idea?

A few years back when I was still working at gamestop there was this younger homeless veteran who use to be a regular customer at our store, he was always at the mall. So every every Tuesday and Friday my co-workers and I took him out to dinner with us. Once we we're able to we eventually hired him, I took him in for a couple months until he had enough to get back on his feet. He's now an assistant manger at the very same Gamestop and happily married with a kid on the way. Honestly brings me to tears sometimes.
At first glimpse I thought it was about a police officer giving him the boot as in 'kicking his ass'. Was positively surprised.

Maybe that was the homeless guy's plan
"hey dude, i have no shoes...i bet if I sit next to this shoe store someone will notice and buy me shoes"
