• Internet trolls face longer sentences
Internet trolls could face up to two years in jail under new laws, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has said. He told the Mail on Sunday quadrupling the current maximum six-month term showed his determination to "take a stand against a baying cyber-mob". The plan has been announced days after TV presenter Chloe Madeley suffered online abuse, which Mr Grayling described as "crude and degrading". Magistrates could pass serious cases on to crown courts under the new measures. Mr Grayling told the newspaper: "These internet trolls are cowards who are poisoning our national life. "No-one would permit such venom in person, so there should be no place for it on social media. That is why we are determined to quadruple the current six-month sentence." Miss Madeley received threats after defending her mother Judy Finnigan's comments on a rape committed by footballer Ched Evans, which she said was "non-violent" and did not cause "bodily harm".
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29678989
They are going to be careful how they word this; ambiguity will lead to a lot of unnecessary prosecutions.
They should just dump them off in Australia like they used to.
Why are people so sensitive these days

Thank God. Finally the GMF can be purged of all the vile elements within it. I for one welcome these Anti Troll measures.
They should just dump them off in Australia like they used to.
do you want more shitposters?
This feels kind of relevant:
Why are people so sensitive these days
To be fair harassment actually is an issue and there are some people on the internet who go too far and beyond. "trolling" isn't exactly the best word for it though as trolling typically refers to relatively harmless fucking-around with someone, while the actual bad situations revolve around creepers doing criminally reprehensible stuff like harassment and doxxing.
Two years? What in honest fuck, I have never seen such a ridiculous jail time for something laughable such as trolling.
Your daily reminder that acting like an asshat isn't okay, even on the internet.
Why is it exactly wrong to punish people who do something objectively evil and harm others?
Why is it exactly wrong to punish people who do something objectively evil and harm others?
Unless you mean trolling causes some to self harm and kill themselves, then I agree. I'm just saying a simple troll though. A little fuck head who has nothing better to do, then to make people hate him/her. Is that punishable? Most are quite forgettable really.
On one hand, "trolling" and abusing people online is horrible. On the other hand...
Miss Madeley received threats after defending her mother Judy Finnigan's comments on a rape committed by footballer Ched Evans, which she said was "non-violent" and did not cause "bodily harm".
Sometimes I'll turn a blind eye.
This is the kind of 'trolling' they're talking about [t]http://imgkk.com/i/nyii.jpg[/t]
This is the kind of 'trolling' they're talking about [t]http://imgkk.com/i/nyii.jpg[/t]
How could you even find the time to do that constantly wtf lol that's kind of fucked up
This is the kind of 'trolling' they're talking about [t]http://imgkk.com/i/nyii.jpg[/t]
dont threaten rape? damn, now theres no point to me going on the internet!!
Why are people so sensitive these days
if you've been on the internet for any longer period of time you'll find that there is some pretty vile harassment going on and no i am not talking about the epic trolling you and your mates do on your league of legends and what have you
if you've been on the internet for any longer period of time you'll find that there is some pretty vile harassment going on and no i am not talking about the epic trolling you and your mates do on your league of legends and what have you
just turn the computer off
just turn the computer off
Yes just give up your right to use the internet.
Yes just give up your right to use the internet.
cant take the memes stay out of the kitchen The "close your eyes" thing boils down to "just ignore it", basically, but it can get pretty severe when it begins to involve your personal life.
Relevant:
This gets funnies
just turn the computer off
while this gets dumbs for saying the same thing. I hate seeing that tweet because it's so wrong.
if this is for the people who on a daily routine tell someone to kills themselves then there's not really a problem imo that's not even trolling that's being a fuckin loon
This gets funnies while this gets dumbs for saying the same thing. I hate seeing that tweet because it's so wrong.
I think the difference is the fact that the tweet is more of a social commentary, rather than just trying to crack a joke.
I think the difference is the fact that the tweet is more of a social commentary, rather than just trying to crack a joke.
How is telling someone to walk away from the screen a social commentary
Miss Madeley received threats after defending her mother Judy Finnigan's comments on a rape committed by footballer Ched Evans, which she said was "non-violent" and did not cause "bodily harm".
Your mom is a shitbag sorry
while this gets dumbs for saying the same thing.
It's all about presentation. Tyler's argument looks like something I'd see satirical in the OIFY, I mean every fucking word is capitalized and he goes "Hahahahahaha" three times. Regardless of how serious he is, I can't take him as such. RustledJimmys' post looks more like an actual opinion, which leads to dumbs.
just turn the computer off
if i was some prominent user on twitter or you-tube etc, and i received a death/rape threat a day (or even worse had people threatening to kill my girlfriend- like the shit that boogie guy received), some including my address and contact info; "just turning my pc off lel" wouldn't give me much peace of mind. I think we need to stop calling serious online harassment stuff "trolling". if someone says they want to kill themselves over online trolling, people are going to think they are being melodramatic, despite the fact that finding an on-line personality who is sent thousands of rape/death threats every day and then making their address public seems to be defined as trolling by the media.
I hate seeing that tweet because it's so wrong.
You see some nasty shit on the internet, you close the website, problem solved. Why can't you do the same thing with 'cyber-bullying'? [editline]19th October 2014[/editline] Social media =/= real life
