So, I got asked this question by a friend of mine, and he did the inevitable and told me "It would probably take me all night", which is an insult to my intelligence. Therefore, I tried Googling the riddle, which I found out wasn't on Google...
So, I come to Facepunch to put you all to the test. Can you beat this supposedly difficult riddle? I know loads of you out there (somewhere) are smart. Give it a shot. First person to answer it correctly gets the satisfaction of being the smartest Facepuncher.
Here it is:
1 costs 40p
2 costs 80p
120 costs 120p
What is it?
It's a special offer. Get 120 for 120p!
curly wurly
What does p stand for? Also, this thread is incredibly homosexual.

Then prove that by working it out youself?
What does 40p mean? Is it supposed to be money? Is the riddle even complete?
1= 40
2 = 80
1+2+0 = 40+80+0 = 120?

pence
Sounds like an african offer.
Then prove that by working it out youself?
Sorry for trying to be sarcastic. Next time i'll try being overly-sarcastic so most of you get it.
1 is 40
2 are 80
40+80+0 is 120?
Dammit Gibo
1= 40
2 = 80
1+2+0 = 40+80+0 = 120?
It seems this man got it, bravo :golfclap:
It doesn't seem right.
so doesn't your avatar...he's got it
Surely 120=0? 40*80*0=0
Door numbers!
Edit: Is the object!
1 = 40p
2 = 80p
120 = 120p
1+2+120=40p+80p+120p
123=240p
p=0.5125
There, I solved it I am genius.
Well, if you insert the
40p
into code, and noparse the 80p, you get 120 highlighted!
It's easy. :banjo:
[editline]11:40PM[/editline]
Oh, I solved it, morons;
1 = 40
2 = 80
1+2 = 3
3 = 120
:biggrin:
OP, where did your friend get this riddle from?
Out of curiosity.

So like;
x = number (1,2,3 etc.)
p = 40x
Let's take 2
p = 40 . 2
40 . 2 - p = 0
80 - p = 0
-p = -80
p = 80
Alright, nice doing.
jesus, now you're gunna be talking about quantum physics and shit - good work, fp, we worked it out, now lets leave it.

Quantum Physics? Wtf?
This is basic algebra?
You 10?
What, what I still don't get is what is priced at 40 pence?
:banjo:
Yes, dividing by 120 has loads in common with subjects such as quantum entanglement.
What, what I still don't get is what is priced at 40 pence?
Did everyone miss the "door numbers" post? Think, 1 door number costs 40 pence, 2 costs 80 pence, 3 costs 120 pence... so the numbers '1', '2', and '0' is three seperate door numbers, at 40 pence each, meaning 120p for all 3.
Good job on the algebra guys, but most of you seriously missed the point.
Yes, dividing by 120 has loads in common with subjects such as quantum entanglement.
:fuckyou:
Indeed.

No, in that case number 2 costs 80p. So 1-2-0 would cost more, but we don't have 0.
OP, where did your friend get this riddle from?

Have no idea. Also the answer to the riddle was this, you guys were looking into it way too deeply, it's not even algebra:
They are door digits. Every number costs 40p, he merely made them seem sequenced to confuse us.
1 = 40p because it's one number. Now, to confuse you, the next number used is 40
40 = 80p because 40 is 4 and 0, two numbers, therefore it's 2 x 40p (also, for all you people saying "What the fuck is p?" its just the currency used in England)
120 = 120p because 3 x 40 see it? Rather hard to do without any hints.
There's no consistency.
You said
1(units)=40p
2(units=80p
120(the number, 3 units)=120p
That's not a riddle, that's a down right trick.
Shit guys, we should've charged him for answers
My brain Dx
Man I havent done algebra since high school,fuck.
But yeah the answer makes sense.
Edit:
It was a basic ass number sequence,where did he get that riddle?
His math test?
