My Fellow Facepunch Members,
I have had a dream of a computer that could run any game at super fast speeds. So I asked one on my friends if that was possible. He told me unless you had something like the sun to power it. So i ask you all today "Is it Possible to Make a CPU with Unlimited Proccessing Power?"
If that were possible I'd have 6 arms biologically attached and live on the moon and have gills too.
Your friends are idiots first of all. The sun to power it.
No. You cannot make a single CPU with unlimited processing power. Not by todays or tomorrows technology means.
You CAN have a computer with a HIGH/Virtually Unlimited processing ability using cloud computing. But variables will take place, and greater the processing ability, greater the variables.
Are you serious?
Erm no. Because Unlimited has no limit. And that's would be impossible.
Erm no. Because Unlimited has no limit. And that's would be impossible.
You can achieve a virtually unlimited processing limit through cloud computing. However, there would be a limit, it'll just be very very high. Next to that, on a single CPU.. well it's just a dumb idea
Christ.

You still don't understand infinity.
1GHz or 1 million Ghz, it doesn't make a difference when compared to infinity, none of them are closer to it.
Well we're all going to hit a wall very soon with technology. Soon we will have to rely onto quantum mechanics to create SSDs and other technology that will move onto the quantum sizes.
Why are we going to hit a wall with technology you ask? Well.. quantum mechanics isn't exactly very good with human logic as it defies everything logical that we humans think of -- such as 1 particle being in 2 places in the same time, one particle interfering with itself, etc.
We're gonna hit one big slump before we get into the "Quantum Revoultion" era. This is gonna be soon too, as in within the next 10 years.

The way of the future etc etc.
But seriously, no.

I don't want life to change that quick :ohdear:

OP sounds like a 10 year old, with a dream that belonged to a typical 10 year old's mind as well
Unlimited
no

Again, virtually infinite, meaning if there were an infinite amount of processors, there would also be infinite processing power.

Quantum computing.
I believe it's as fast as light and works on the atomic level. It was in an issue of PopSci too. Kinda.
Again, virtually infinite, meaning if there were an infinite amount of processors, there would also be infinite processing power.
And by doing some advanced and time consuming research I figured out that we don't have an infinite amount of processors. :science:

Really? I thought we did, but we just didn't have the room to store it.
/sarcasm

Quantum mechanics only sounds strange and logic defying, because most people make wrong assumptions about particles. Particles are not solid objects, instead they are more like ripples in water, instantly making the thought of a particle (ripple) being in more than one spot at the same time, less mind boggling.
[editline]08:46PM[/editline]
Still mind boggling, but less.
You can achieve a virtually unlimited processing limit through cloud computing. However, there would be a limit, it'll just be very very high. Next to that, on a single CPU.. well it's just a dumb idea
You had better be taking the piss.
Your question doesn't really make any sense. Also no.
That "unlimited power" would have to drain all the sun and make a nuclear chain reaction within all the electro-centrals in this world for that "unlimited".
Unlimited power is impossible, at least in a finite universe.
More power than you'd ever need, of course, is simple. Start with eight Xeon X7560s, with 32gb of DDR3 each, then hook up two Radeon HD 5970 (Eyefinity editions have more memory) in a Crossfire setup. Plug in one of the old PhysX dedicated cards as well. Or scrap the GPUs for a Quadro Plex 2200 S4. I guarantee you that it will run any game yet made at maximum for any common screen size. It wouldn't even take too much power, maybe a few kilowatts. The only problem would be the cost - I estimate about fifty thousand dollars just for the parts outlined above.

Virtual infinite is not a true infinite. It would seem as if your computing power would be infinite since you do not have a workload that could use all of the power available.
And 1 Million GHz, you're talking over 1PHz. A number, which is godly. Granted, not infinite. However, I am sure we have nothing to put on a workload of such magnitude.. therefor making it virtually infinite.

I could compile gentoo in 10 seconds
In the future, if you had a load of money, I'd say you could create more power than you could use.
But unlimited, no.

Well done sir :golfclap:
Nothing in our universe is infinite.
Other than human stupidity.
He told me unless you had something like the sun to power it. So i ask you all today "Is it Possible to Make a CPU with Unlimited Proccessing Power?"
That doesn't make any sense. Having a solar powered CPU doesn't mean it has unlimited processing power, it means that it runs off of solar power.
Get new friends who don't techno-babble.
Nothing in our universe is infinite.

If you are going to steal something, steal it with a quote and get it right.
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.” -Einstein.
Also, whoever said something about his friends being stupid because they said use the sun to power it, that actually isn't a bad idea.
Once we can create a way to harness solar energy more efficiently, the sun creates enough energy to completely satisfy all of our earth and then much more. We just have to figure out an effective way to collect it.
