I recently downloaded a file which i ran, and low and behold! I get a virus! It blocked my default program from scanning which is Windows Live OnceCare.
i wonder how you got the virus :downs:
next time, use a better AV.
also, i suggest reformatting, it definitely gets rid of the virus.

also, run windows in safemode an scan with avg or avast.
Spy-bot Search and Destroy from Safer Networking would help.

I used to run AVG just fine till version 8.5, it then becomes a memory hog. Spy-Bot Search and Destroy is completely free. If you are running AVG Free it will not completely remove viruses.

spybot is for spyware
and avg free removes viruses fine. but not spyware.
I've ran and updated Spybot but the virus locks me out telling me "You don't have user permissions. blah blah blah" I AM the Administrator and I have UAC off
its a rootkit.
i suggest reformatting.

There is always a way to get around reformatting, thats the simple and easy way.
Anyways, the problem is solved, I did a system restore to a point about a week ago, then i scanned with my VP and it removed the files!
Thanks everyone for their help!

yes.
also, most of the time, AV's don't remove viruses completely.
good to hear you fixed it though.
