I'd rather play the mod version
Insurgency was hilariously unfun. I wonder if they unfucked it.
Insurgency, or how to spend most of a game prone somewhere and die in 1 hit in your toe.
I got this during the winter sale and it's actually not that bad i think i spent around 6 hours in it.
Insurgency was hilariously unfun. I wonder if they unfucked it.
I enjoyed it, though it had some major problems. Most notably IMO the horrible level design and the farclipping plane being fucked up so you could see further at the edges of the screen. The gamemodes aren't great either. Also, the fucking squad bullshit. Fuck that. Why do you guys think it's so bad? It would be nice to get some more in-depth explanations.
I was in a building once and someone shot his AK on the street. My screen went blurry and shaky for like 5 seconds. *realistic*
I had some fun times in the mod version, don't know what you lot are on about.
It looks like Battlefield 3 on a smaller scale with no destructible environment
Insurgency was hilariously unfun. Nothing quiet like driving a garbage truck into an APC and dropping a plane bomb.
It looks like Battlefield 3 on a smaller scale with no destructible environment
it's not the same at all

You can't even compare PR with Insurgency, both games have different porpuses, what the hell are you guys talking about? One is a full scale war simulator, the other one is a infantry realistic-ish combat game. About the standalone version, if you enjoyed the mod then you will most likely enjoy the game as much as, if not even more. Addtionaly, there's a coop mode that is hard as shit, and is really good for praticing before going PvP, wich is a welcome thing to new players/rusty veterans.
I remember having fun times with the mod and from what I recall, so did a lot of others. What's changed?
The mod was great although tough, the game looks like it was dumbed down quite a bit.
be nice if they ai died as easily as you did in coop mode
Well, the main change is that it got a loadout screen where you use supply points to customize your soldier, but it's not really that fancy, just something to get you some prizes for scoring mainly (you earn more supply points as you do things like capping objectives). There's also a tatical map, a comm rose(just added yesterday), coop, and a better suppression effect IMO. Also, leaning while walking exists now (I think you only leaned while still on the mod), altought far less effective. There's not anything major to be called dumbing down, I think. They added a killfeed that can be disabled serverside, probably because 8 out of 10 servers on the mod had plugins that showed info on who killed you anyway.
I still play the mod. One of my favourite shooters at the moment. Not terribly interested in the standalone though
Also, balance changes, but that's obvius enough. [editline]21st January 2014[/editline] My goddanm automerge.
It still looks incredibly... Source-y.
It still looks incredibly... Source-y.
It basically looks like they took the mod version updated it abit then called it a game and tried to sell it.
It basically looks like they took the mod version updated it abit then called it a game and tried to sell it.
You haven't played it, and neither have most of the people in this thread. It's a HIGHLY improved version of the mod, and it's a lot of fun. A lot of you are hating on it for the simple fact that it's a mod turned game. Guess what, a lot of good games were mods before too. Get the fuck over it.

No.
It basically looks like they took the mod version updated it abit then called it a game and tried to sell it.
Looks.

I don't get all the hate for Ins. I've been playing it and it's basically a modern day RO2. It plays really nice, the guns feel good, and it definitely is a far cry from most other modern FPS's. I know a few people bought it long ago and haven't played it for a long time, but I'd definitely suggest giving it another shot now, they've made some pretty radical updates and made the game feel real good.
I think I played the mod version once. I got stuck in an alley and dropped all my stuff. Then I lied down and couldn't get up.
When I first saw this announced I thought it was going to be another dumbed down FPS. But now it seems like they are making it slower, more realistic, etc like the original mod and RO. I might get it if it's like that.
It looks like Battlefield 3 on a smaller scale with no destructible environment
It really is more like Red Orchestra with CS:GO's setting and graphics. That being said it's quite a good game so far, when I last played it was a bit lacking in content (although I can see that has since changed) but it's notably improved over the old mod version. To the people who claim it's "dumbed down" by comparison I'd highly advise actually looking at gameplay of the two rather than making knee-jerk reactions and incorrect judgments.
I had some fun times in the mod version, don't know what you lot are on about.
I found the mod enjoyable sometimes. It stopped being fun when wannabe Marines/Army guys would be on the server and talk about how many times they toured through afghanidapitakistan and how many "ragheads" they killed there.
