• PS3 AV Component Cable Stops my Games from Playing
    18 replies, posted
So I bought an AV cable in hopes that i could get a 1080i picture on my TV (its the cord with the Red Blue Green Red and White plugs), so I set everything up and checked 480, 720, 1080i, I reset the system and everything. So the main menu is all nice and playing fine in HD, i start up Super Stardust HD and play it for an hour. Then I want to play RDR and I find out that the ONLY game i can play while on 1080i is super stardust HD. I dont get why because ,y friend can play games on 1080p v:v:v. I contacted sony and was on the phone with them for several hours and basically, they fucked up my ps3. So i had to restore the system to its factory setting loosing all my game data and everything, and still, nothing works. Only super stardust HD. Oh I should mention that when I do put in a CD, i simply loose picture, as in, I can press the PS button and try to remember where the 'Quit Game" option is, and go back to the menu and everything is fine. So can anyone help me? I kind of dont want to waste 20 bucks on something that doesnt work and I dont want to go back to standard definition after seeing what HD can do. nobody?
Is your TV able to use 1080p? If not, uncheck that box in the Display Setup. It's possible the PS3 is trying to use it.
Where did you get that cable? It's pin-out is probably wrong.

720p looks better than 1080i, if you can get 720p working. [editline]09:20PM[/editline] I found your post sorta confusing, so maybe that was bad reading.
loose   [loos], loos·er, loos·est, adverb, verb loosed, loos·ing. –verb (used with object) 20. to let loose; free from bonds or restraint. 21. to release, as from constraint, obligation, or penalty. 22. Chiefly Nautical . to set free from fastening or attachment: to loose a boat from its moorings. 23. to unfasten, undo, or untie, as a bond, fetter, or knot. 24. to shoot; discharge; let fly: to loose missiles at the invaders. 25. to make less tight; slacken or relax. 26. to render less firmly fixed; lessen an attachment; loosen. PLEASE stop confusing "loose" with "lose," I could barely understand your post.
I'm p.much sure you can't do 1080p through that cable
Yes you can. Its component. Component can do up to 1080p. Hes trying to get 1080i though. More to the point can you tell us the exact model of TV?

When i have all those 3 checked, the only game i can play is super stardust HD, every other games makes the picture go away. However, if i only check 1080i, then i can play any game, but it looks worse than standard definition. [editline]10:29AM[/editline]
Yes you can. Its component. I know this is kind of out there, but it might be that once your TV is set on a resolution, it can't detect to change it. For example, if you make 1080i your only display mode, the PS3 shows everything in 1080i. If the source is not meant for 1080 HD, it upscales it (which does indeed make it look kind of bad). Just to give it a shot, once you start playing something that makes the screen blank, try changing the channel or turning it off and back on. Also, try setting your TV's resolution manually if possible. Extra: I just checked the wiki page for RDR. Its native resolution is 720p. So it would seem the switch from 1080 to 720 is indeed not being handled well by your TV.

Component goes to 1080p. VGA goes to 1080p. They are both the 2 analogue ways of getting 1080p. HDMI and DVI are the 2 Digital ways. All 4 support 1080 and can even go beyond 1920x1080. The PS3 will automatically upscale or downscale games to run at the resolution that the output is asking for. (Infact so does the 360) On a side note to that. Red Dead Redemption on PS3 actually runs at 644p (640×1152) and the PS3 upscales it to 720p. On the Xbox 360 the game is natively at 720p. This was the same for GTA IV. Goes to show how lazy Rockstar have been. You would think for a game in Mid 2010 it would be at 1080p.
Maybe the consoles can't handle 1080p with demanding games such as RDR and gta 4?
Its a good reason and makes sense. But you can get games like Modern Warfare 2 running at 1080p at 60fps?
Modern Warfare 2 runs at 600p natively.
I know but it is upscaled to 1080p. Upscaling still takes a huge ammount of GPU power.
Hey guys i figured it out. For whatever reason my tv doesent play at 720 and only 1080i and 480, so yeah it looks just as good, but thanks for the help guys, now can a mod please lock this thread.
I know but it is upscaled to 1080p. Upscaling still takes a huge ammount of GPU power.
Not really, I think theres something in the GPU, dedicated to scaling. It's much more demanding to run it at higher native resolution
