• UNESCO and Israel at odds over Palestinian world heritage sites
Israel is stepping up its efforts to seize control of Palestinian heritage sites and antiquities in the occupied territories in violation of international law, Palestinian and Israeli archaeologists warned this week. --- Archaeologists, however, said the UNESCO resolution underestimated the scope of the problem facing Palestinian heritage sites. The Palestinian tourism and antiquities ministry is preparing to announce a list of 14 major sites in the occupied territories that are in urgent need of protection from Israeli activities. Under UNESCO rules, Palestine will be able to nominate two of them this year for consideration as world heritage sites, in a fast-track procedure. --- Ahmed Rajoub, an archaeologist in the Palestinian tourism and antiquities ministry, said Israel was preparing to turn a dozen important heritage sites in the West Bank into Israeli national parks. "We cannot access these areas to protect them or even collect data for UNESCO," he told Al Jazeera. "That leaves them vulnerable to damage and destruction by settlers, the Israeli army and looters."
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/05/annexing-archaeology-unesco-israel-160519051718915.html
Knowing how crazy some of the Israeli Settlers are it's likely that as soon as Israel acquires them by any means they're going to get desecrated at best and destroyed at worst.

UNATCO?
Israel also abuses archaeology to highlight a narrative of Jewish historical connection. That can then be used to justify further Jewish settlement on Palestinian territory.
There's a narrative of Jewish historical connection because Jews actually lived there. If you read the Torah, it mentions cities where the Jews lived that you can visit today. For example, Hebron was a city for Jewish Priests, King David ruled from there for a few years, and his son Absolam rebelled from there. Even if you don't consider the biblical stories as reliable, there's archaeological evidence that Jews lived there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMLK_seal The Palestinians are being stupid by arguing that the land of Israel has no connection to Judaism's history.
Doesn't matter if Jews lived there 1,200 years ago if nothing but Palestinians live there today.
Except that Jews live in Hebron today and have been living there since before the creation of the State of Israel. We stopped living there in 1929 when the Arabs of Hebron started massacring Jews. We came back in 1967. Jews are only allowed in 3% of the city itself, the rest is judenrein. Palestinians are allowed in the Jewish areas while Jews are not allowed in the Palestinian area.

They had no significant impact with their size you couldn't tell the difference with the non-Arab natives already living there. Source: McCarthy, Justin, The Population of Palestine, Columbia University Press: New York, 1990, pp. 10, 35. Here is a very pro-Jewish/Zionist source that skews history to Israel's favor, still reaffirms what I said above and what I will say below: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Society_&_Culture/israel_palestine_pop.html Following massive unchecked immigration (the British set no limits so swarms of foreigners can pretty much take over a culture and people and make it their home) the population grew to 15% of total Palestine— 4 years before this Hebron massacre and other back-and-forth atrocities by both the Palestinians and Jews. Even before the Hebron massacre, little Jews lived in Palestine at all. If 15% of Palestine had Jewish population, then it can be assumed an even negligible amount lived in the small village of Hebron, like not enough to dent the already pre-existing populations of other ethnic groups that aren't Arabs or Jews. There were some Jews in Palestine before Israel was a state, true, but this was all due to last-minute unchecked immigration which was sponsored by the Jewish National Fund. 5 years before Israel was a state, there were a lot of Jewish people. But stretch that 30 years and there were basically no Jews living in Palestine at all. Even at its peak with free-for-all immigration in which Jews were sponsored to come move-in by various entities and agencies by not limited too the JNF, PICA, Hemnuta Ltd and Palestine Land Development Co. Ltd. the Jewish population soared overnight from 3% to 31% as a result of "artificial immigration." And despite being the minority ethnic group that barged in overnight, not only did they get their own country but they got the most of the land. Something that would make SH posters here rip their hairs off if it happened to Europe by "foreign invaders motivated by a religious ideology to make it their country"
