Ouchies for him, he seems like a nice guy too
As much as I love minecraft, I've always felt bad about infiniminer.
notch should give him 1 million dollars, its like tip money for him.
Couldn't he have just released the next edition of "Infiniminer" with obfuscated source code? Players will still move on to new releases if there are great new features available. It sounds like he gave up prematurely. I mean, Notch could release the earliest version of Minecraft into the wild and he'd still be making sales.
It seems like he really just didnt support the game enough, or was too closed minded to see that it was MUCH more fun building than competing

Imagine if a larger developer had seen what it could be.
someone has an idea of fun that differs from yours call them "close-minded"
I remember reading on Notches blog that competitive servers and stuff he would be in usually end up with people building houses etc. instead of competing

Notch should hire this guy.
I really want a competitive Mining gamemode in Minecraft.
Notch should hire this guy.
isn't that kinda like "hey, i stole your promotion, which in turn fired you. sorry. do you want to work for me?"
isn't that kinda like "hey, i stole your promotion, which in turn fired you. sorry. do you want to work for me?"
no it's kinda like "hey man I see that I took your idea, and made it very successful what say you come and help me make it even better?"
I had never actually heard of this, Minecraft probably became more of a success because it had more publicity.
I had never stopped to think but now that i do i feel terrible for this guy. I always feel incredibly horrible when i see those huge chances just pass by me and i let them go, now imagine how this guy feels. I hope fate shines upon him and he gets hired or something or get to do something.
Notch should hire this guy.
Not a bad idea, If he worked on heavily-content orientated stuff while Notch worked on mostly back-end stuff, it could work out. But probably not because Zach doesn't live in Sweden.
I have respect for him, how he just got over it instead of shouting "I'LL SUE YOU" at notch. That guy deserves a medal for this.
I know! I'll take the infiniminer source code, close the source, and...oh, http://forums.zachtronicsindustries.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=208 Oh well I'll keep going on my doomed from the start lua scripting addon. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline]
notch should give him some money
Considering he's gotten over a million users off of someone else idea and some of his code.
no it's kinda like "hey man I see that I took your idea, and made it very successful what say you come and help me make it even better?"
No. Put yourself in his situation. Wouldn't you feel really offended if a person that took your idea and not only made it successfull, but made it multimilionnaire and famous, asks you to join him in the exact same thing that ruined all your hard work? It's like if Garry asked the creator of JBMod for joining him in the developing team of Garry's Mod It's kind of like the history of Antonio Meucci, that invented the telephone with the purpose of being able to talk with his very-ill wife. Alexander Graham Bell just stole his invention, patented it and he got all the fame and historical recognition while Antonio died in poverty and was painfully ignored for years. I feel really bad for this guy, but the fact he didn't acted like an ass and started filling lawsuits against Notch it's really respectful. He deserves a fucking medal.
At least he isn't holding a grudge, good on him.
Aww man I feel really bad for this guy :frown:.

That would be really discouraging for me if I was a game developer.
I have respect for him, how he just got over it instead of shouting "I'LL SUE YOU" at notch. That guy deserves a medal for this.
this really, I can imagine me being very mad if someone made a similar game like mine and then got rich as fuck
If I remember right, at least one of the minecraft devs moved to sweden, so wouldn't hurt asking him.
I feel very sorry for Zach now. Partly due to me witnessing everything happen, good old times of playing Infiniminer with FP :buddy:
So basically he caused his own downfall?
So basically he caused his own downfall?
Just like Hitler. :godwin:
Where is that notch uses infiniminer code again? I thought that it was just a rumor. Besides infiniminer and minecraft don't seem all that similar to me. They have blocks and thats about it.
As much as I love minecraft, I've always felt bad about infiniminer.
To be perfectly honest , I loved infiniminer and still do. Although minecraft has thrown it into obscurity , nothing could make the memories of running down a corridor with your mates after accidentally hitting a magma stream and fucking everything over be forgetton. Good times.... Infiniminer will always have superior mulitplayer
