A good ending DLC, only $99.99

I find it hilarious that being on the BBC
I really wanted to play through the series as well. I'm hesitant to start the first game just because I know that the third's ending is supposedly so bad.
While I appreciate the mainstream coverage, I'm getting more than a little aggravated with so many news sites boiling the whole "movement" down to "Waaah, the ending wasn't happy enough!" While it would be nice to have an optional triumphant ending a la Mass Effect 1 or 2, that's really a very trivial aspect of what the frustration is all about.
Goddamn its just an ending to a GAME...
RAGE had an even worse ending kind of like this one and no one complained this much

Rage wasn't the final conclusion to a 3 game series
But I do agree, people are taking this a little too far

Mass Effect 3 has a whole lot more riding on it. It's the conclusion of a full trilogy with your specific character, and there was no less than half a dozen press quotes from the devs and producers saying "Your choices will matter!" and "We won't pull a LOST and leave you with more questions than answers!' So, basically people were expecting what they told us to expect and it turns out that not only did they give us the opposite of what we were told, but that it was apparently planned that way.
It might be "just" a video game (which kind of trivializes the medium, wouldn't you say?), but people have very valid arguments.
I think the fact this has now become national news hints at the fact that people might be over reacting.
"Its just a game" What would people say if this happened to half-life series?
"Its just a game" What would people say if this happened to half-life series?
You mean the hugely popular game series that was quietly put into hiatus?
The ending was bad but not that bad.
And yet nobody campaigned to change Dark Souls' ending and that was atrocious. Everyone was satisfied that the game was enjoyable and didn't necessarily need a big, overarching payoff.
Also, days before release I funnily enough imagined how neat it would be if the Reapers won no matter what you did, finally giving players a no-win (or at least no happy ending) game to, I don't know, I guess reflect upon their choices or some shit. I didn't think that far into it.

Yes, but was Dark Souls repeatedly promised to have a big, overarching payoff that answered all your questions and took your choices into account, resulting in wildly different endings? That's one of the big parts of the argument here: Bioware promised us something, and gave us the opposite. And in this case, it happened to be something really important.
98% of Mass Effect 3 is fantastic; just about everything I could have wanted. But the last 10 minutes might as well have been made by a separate team who has no idea what Mass Effect is all about.

It didn't even promise me an ending while it was happening, and that still kinda pisses me off. But yeah, I see your point. I also have no idea what the exact problem with the endings are, besides them all being identical except for a palette swap.
The ending was bad but not that bad.
I've never exactly played Mass Effect, but if I played through three games making decisions that would ultimately affect the ingame universe as a whole, I would probably want some big important choices based on what I've done for three entire games rather than what color the explosions are going to be.

If you have a few minutes, Gamefront sums it up quite well.
i havent played me3 yet, but i saw the endings. to me the problem is how the end makes no fucking sense at all.
All the rage is about how many promises about how many different endings there would be and how even minor choices would influence it.
But then; Nothing you did mattered at all, Shepard dies, Mass Relays destroyed, you get to choose the colour of the explosion. If you compare the CGI's at the end they're all identical with the exception being the colour.
Also the prompt when you beat the game which says "Congratulations you beat the game, buy our DLC" is a big fuck you.
Well at least no one got a threat to be killed like the fanboys did about when they read the script about how he was going to die :v:
Shit I really have to beat this to see what all the fuss is about.

What sort of crummy argument is that? "God damn, it's just the ending to a BOOK." It doesn't matter what form you use, it's the ending to a story and some people feel that BioWare fucked it up. The second part of your argument is just as bad. "Oh well something else was terrible and no one was upset about that so why should they be upset about something totally different?"

It's not even that that annoyed me, it was the epilogue that basically said "not like the last 3 games mattered since Shepard and the Reapers are a fairy tale."
Goddamn its just an ending to a GAME...
They're not "just games". Games are a just as valid medium as music, books or films are.
People would be just as pissed if newest Harry Potter or some other popular film got a shit ending.
So now it's on the BBC huh...
Sensationalism!

If I didn't want my ending spoiled for a game I'm playing, I would stay clear of a thread solely devoted to the ending of said game.
It's a form of entertainment designed to pleasure people. When something regarded as entertainment entertained you up until the ending, then you'll be somewhat satisfied by the experience.
Video games are no different that any other medium like film, music or books.
A game or movie can be entertaining and shit at the same time. For example I can admit that watching a Transformers movie is entertaining for me because of all the cheap explosions and action going on but it's still an incredibly shitty movie.
I didn't give two shits about the ending because I remember how I got there and all the battles I have to fight in to achieve the final goal.
Just because you didn't care about the ending doesn't mean that it was shit or that others didn't care as well.
Not every ending is designed to be good, though I understand why people are pissed (color changes rather than entirely different cutscenes) and why Bioware has to do something like this (the leak).
Really? "Hey guys, listen! Let's design out ending to be the most awful piece of shit ever! It's okay because we designed it that way! Amrite?"
Circuit skin, all I'm saying. They could've left in the buttons, the not mattering choices, but please, leave circuit skin and ghost boys out.
