Some 7,000 armed police with heavy vehicles have surrounded and blocked the Incirlik air base in Adana used by NATO forces, already restricted in the aftermath of a failed coup. Unconfirmed reports say troops were sent to deal with a new coup attempt.
I said it before and I'll say it again
I hope those nukes are out by now
Go secularism! But it's probably nothing.

cant do shit unless you have the codes to detonate them. Nukes are not a regular bomb that goes off by heat or any big force, you have to trigger the reaction inside the bomb mechanically to set it off.

They're not. Erdogan isn't stupid enough to attack and sieze them.
Kill Erdogan. Don't fuck up this time.
The party don't stop.
This time with more feeling i guess.
Is Incirik Air Base a NATO base or a Turkish based used by NATO but still Turkish?

NATO base, it's why a lot of the protesters at the site at the moment are apparently shouting "America out". A lot of the staff there are US.

PALS isn't infalible. Like all engineering systems it can be subverted.
Doesn't this base hold some of our nuclear weapons? Honestly, if they try anything, I'd be perfectly content with the retaking of Constantinople.

Welp. Time to cut up Turkey again. We'll make sure the Kurds and Greeks get their land back. :v:

Yes, but you can still get out the materials which can be rebuilt into a nuke.

I know I made a joke about it last time around, but why do people keep calling Istanbul by a name it hasn't had in almost 600 years?
I think it's just the stickler in me, but it seems really strange.
i dont see anyone else reporting this besides RT and /pol/
There's a few twitter accounts talking about the base, but it's all in Turkish.

What does the "YUREGIR BELEDIYE" text on the truck mean?
Unconfirmed reports out of Turkey suggest all entrances to the air base have been blocked by heavy vehicles and police sent to secure its peremiter.
The unusual nigh-time move sparked rumours of a second coup attempt on Turkish social media, with concerned citizens rushing to the air base to join the blockade.
The move comes less than a week after a top US Army general was accused by Turkish media of ‘leading’ the uprising against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier this month.
But Turkish Minister for European Affairs has since reportedly sought to reassure local media, stating the mission was just a “safety inspection”.
Regional Governor Ahmet Cina has told Turkish news services: “Everthing is normal and controlled. There is no movement of our troops.”
US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Joseph Dunford is due to fly in for an inspection of the air base later today. He is also expected to hold talks with the Turkish government in Ankara.
Actually all you need to do is bypass the built-in detonator circuitry with a little detcord and a nokia cell phone. As long as you can trigger the conventional stage you can detonate the entire warhead, and most of them use an explosive in that stage that detcord will trigger. If not detcord, raw electric shock itself.
What does the "YUREGIR BELEDIYE" text on the truck mean?
I think it's Yuregir Belediyesi, the name of a government office in Adana. Presumably that truck belongs to that place?

source please.

I'll concede that part of me hopes this, though I also hope for a more "peaceable" resolution where no-one has to get killed over all of this.
But hey, that's just me being naive in the face of chaos. Knowing this year's luck, even if the blackguard got removed from office, Erdogan would probably be replaced by someone far worse, just to stomp on our hopes and dreams that 2016 won't be AS shite as it's shaping up to be.

It needs to be timed in a specific way though, accurate to milliseconds. There's two detonating charges that set off the actual nuclear explosion but if one of them detonates even a millisecond too fast or slow, you'll have a fissile. It was specifically designed that way, both for safety, and so people couldn't just bypass the PAL system by disconnecting the detonator wires and putting a battery on them. Plus they're special exploding bridgewire detonators, they need a pretty damn big pulse from a capacitor to actually explode, otherwise they get hot and burn.

Safety Inspection is the most sinister sounding shit.

While I think most people overestimate the security of PALS, it's not that simple. Nuclear weapons require microsecond timing in the primary, something that can't be achieved with ductape and detcord.
