So i just got a new laptop and i was using the Can You Run It? site and it was telling me i couldn't run stuff like borderlands. It also said, at the same time, that everything else was fine. It said the problem was that it didn't have videocard, while everything under the videocard category checks out fine. So my question is, will games like bordelands still run fine? It has an i5 processor in it.
Well, we need to know the name of the video card.
It doesnt have one, its a laptop.
What's the name of the laptop?
I haven't heard of a laptop with an i5 and no video card.
That's why then

Don't the dual core i5's have an inbuilt Intel HD Graphics thingy like the i3's do?
It's an Toshiba Satellite L555. An i5 processor, 4gb of ram, running 64-bit Win7. It rates a 4.5 on the performance ratings.

I thought the i5 was for higher end laptops...
Well, what is the name of the GRAPHICS DEVICE or whatever you want me to call it OP.

Ninjad big time.
'can you run it' is bullshit
and the windows performance index thing
So can it run it or what?
You still haven't told us the name of the graphics device.
We only know it's a shitty intergrated intel one.
Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD (Core i5) , thats what its giving me.

Video RAM 1.7 GB
3D Yes
Hardware T&L Yes
Pixel Shader version 4.0
Vertex Shader version 4.0
Well, I don't think you'll be able to play any new games on that.
Though i might be wrong.
You should be able to play source games
Im waiting for alien swarm to finish installing and see how it runs.

Can't run new games?! You have to be kidding. I run Borderlands on an 8400m GT with 128mb VRAM.
Well, you know, it's not all about vram.
You probably won't be able to run anything new very well. Although source engine should work...
Oh wow, I just realized who you were...
Video RAM is just for the Cache or something
It has really no effect on how great you can run something

It's most likely shared ram, not discreet VRAM... and you should be looking more at stream processors and core clocks.
My old school were going to buy laptops for the new students, it had the same GPU as your laptop.
They sent me to test it and it could run CSS with all on high no AA in 1280x720 on 70-100fps.
Sorry robmaister12.

The only game which I've seen use up all my VRAM (GTX 260 core 216, 768MB VRAM) is GTA:IV with textures on high. It depends on the game and how much is loaded to VRAM.

broke mah automerge :argh:
Wasn't there some guy who bought a 5870 and hooked it up to his laptop externally? That might work, except with a cheaper card.
Wasn't that a interface that only some of the new Asus laptops have?

Wow, is that even possible? I never heard of it being done before.
Can you run it just told me that a Phenom II X4 is worse than a Phenom II X3.
Depends on which.

Can you run it told me I couldn't run Half Life 2 on a Pentium III based Celeron system. Bullshit. It works more or less fine.

8400M GT is a better card though
