I was thinking of starting a internet~gaming cafe in my area. There is no other ones around my area; I was thinking if I started with around 10 computers and maybe a 360 and PS3, each with there own HD projectors, then using steams cafe gaming system and down loading the clients for WoW and other popular MMO's. Then offer free WiFi to bring in customers, host local tournaments with prizes to bring in customers. I would only charge around $10 a day for the 360 and PS3, then with $5 intial and $2 an hour for a pc. I don't know if they would be hand built or bought high-end computers. So would this work, any suggestions? Also I'll take name suggesstions. I will have snacks and drinks for sale. Maybe burgers and other stuff too if I can. Will include reward point system to reward returning customers and offer advertising space for local electronic stores to help pay for monthly dues.
Do it. We need more of them. There are none around my house.
Yeah, these places are awesome
Would this work? If you're thinking of starting a business in your local area, it helps to find out if your local area would want your business. Why ask this place? We don't live in your area. How would you even afford a business? Do you have the capital, do you have a business plan, do you have a bank loan? I'm not trying to discourage you, it's just that I get the impression you're young and have no knowledge on the subject of starting up a business.
It will work like a charm. Do it. Great idea.
Not to be mean but I doubt it would work, most people interested in games already have systems and would rather play at home, and rewarding them with prizes would probably leave you with little profit.
All the gaming places in my area ran out of business. Everyone plays at home now.
Great idea, you'd need a fucking huge wall for the projectors to make it worth it though.
I don't think it's as populated as if you compare to a few years back. If you, however, manage to make it epic I think I'd be cool.
you will never make money
To be honest, I'm not sure game/net cafes in the west are really all that profitable at all. Most seem to be rather expensive, and still struggle to make ends meet.
Like some guys said, it depends on the demand. In the current recession are kids really going to pay for something they can do very easily (and for free) at home? Pretty much anyone who is into gaming has a console. Then again it could work the reverse, those who don't would probably love to play, maybe in a group setting for the social aspect. It all depends on how you market it and if you can afford the capital. You'll have to fork out a lot I don't think you'll be experiencing much profit for a while with a plan like this. It seems more like a hobby then a money-maker, but you didn't say you wanted to make money.
you better fucking clean your computers a lot because i fucking hate greasy slimy people who never wash their hands after they use the shitter and go onto an internet cafe desktop seriously, if you're too assed to wash the damn thing, AT LEAST SPRAY IT DOWN WITH ANTI-BACTERIALIZER AND WIPE IT OFF yours truly, your future internet cafe users.
If you do try and do this, make your business near a place where lots and lots of tourists come so people who want to check their emails and stuff come to you.
You'd get to sign up with the steam cafe program I'm pretty sure you get all the games with that. But I know for a fact it useally costs so much money as a fee. but yeah I honestly dont think it would last long as I haven't seen any Net Cafe's or Gaming Cafes in my area (about 15 minutes from Philly depending)
I have an advertising slogan to. Goes along the lines of- Love gaming? Friends don't have a computer, but want to have a LAN party? Then host it at [buisness name here] and you and all of your friends could enjoy gaming together for super low prices!!!!!
sounds generic :geno:

Problem with gaming internet cafes is that one of the saving graces of starting an internet cafe is the computers themselves don't actually need to be at all powerful, just have internet and email access; as soon as you throw games into the mix you need to be spending four, maybe more times the amount on hardware
Well maybe I could start with internet/older games computer. With some classics like Half life 2 and maybe WoW. Then having 360's and PS3's for games until I can earn enough to pay for higher end computers. Also if I upgrade computers roughly every year I could help pay for costs by selling the older computers.
I have one place like that close to were I live. 10 360's 5 PS3's They have 30 inch flat screen T.V's and over 80 games. It's mostly for LAN party's but it's still fun to go there and chill with friends.
Just make sure the computers can play DOTA and cs 1.6 thats all anyone plays at the internet cafe's in my town.
$10 for an entire day for 360's and PS3's? You'll need to charge a bit more than that else you won't get profit.
We need some more plans of your business. How old are you, where do you live, what finance plan do you think you can handle, and what is your population type.
You also need to trademark the name, buy land, and buy the actual building, as well as paying for electricity etc.
Theres a franchise, forgot what its called but they had one in my area, didnt do too well and closed down after a while. In total they had 50 computers, 20 for gaming, an xbox 360 and a HD screen. The only people that went there was people playing runescape. I went there rarely to play some random games
This is a good idea, what will be tough are the first days, you need customers, if they liked it, they'll eventually tell friends and so on and so on, oh yeah and budget, remember to get a good budget, the PCs don't have to be high end remember that, they can be just humble custom built mid end PCs that at least can play most games being played today like Team-Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4 etc.
Don't, small restaurant-esque businesses are the most likely to fail out of any small business.

Start as a normal internet cafe then once you see success with maybe an arcade machine and 2 gaming machines. Then if you see success, gradually add more gaming machines.
