I've noticed there's no chat thread for any of those in the fire or medical career path.
I am a volunteer EMS provider in Maryland currently enrolled in EMT class which is about half-way through.
I've been volunteering about 8 months now and been on some interesting calls. The most interesting and strangest call I have been on was back before I joined when I was a ride along. We were dispatched to an "injured person after an assault" and we arrive to find a father, who was in his mid 50's bit his son who was in his early 20's about 20 or so times. There were no drugs or alcohol involved. Just two angry individuals.
Besides that, I've been on a number of PIC's, nothing fancy, and one shooting. About two months ago I was promoted to the 4th man on the medic, which allows for slightly more interesting calls, such as really bad car wrecks, stabbings, and shootings, among other high-priority trauma patients. I'm still waiting for the big one.
After EMT class, I'm planning on taking my fire class, and then rescue tech so I can ride on the rescue squad.
Anyone else in pre-hospital, fire, or a hospital environment? If so, let's hear about it. What cool shit have you seen and how long have you been doing it?
