About 45 minutes to an hour ago, I downloaded an executable file, once I ran it, I got a BSOD, I tried restarting in normal mode, another BSOD, all of the Safe Modes, BSOD. A file downloaded with my browser saves it into one of my slave drives, so I unhooked that drive and took it out, started my computer again, but got the same results: BSOD. So obviously the virus has spread throughout my system or something. How can I fix this? Please help, I really miss my computer.
I'll tell you exactly what happens;
1. I start my computer,
2. I get a "your computer did not shut down properly",
3. I choose an option (Safe mode, start normally, etc),
4. Windows Loading screen appears for about half a second,
5. BSOD.
What the BSOD says:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. If the problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software, disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safemode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, then select safe mode.

Wipe your drive, just wipe it out.
All of them?
Also, how? I can't even load my OS.

Good reading :colbert:

he doesn't actually say he's tried safe mode, just that the screen comes up
A perfect example of why you should scan it before you run it. Also, there might be an issue between the program and the OS. I was using Windows Vista, and I tried installing this one program, and it gave me something like you have. I reformatted, and never tried it again. What is the file in question?

I'll say it now, I've tried every option at that screen.

Learned my lesson too late :eng99:
Looks like it's time for a clean install, also get W7.

/\ This won't help the virus, but it would be a good idea.

I think W7 might have prevented this.

Too bad I didn't have 7, huh.

It just came out a few days ago, I wouldn't have expected you to have it. Unless you mean the RC, which I am running. Works great .
So what should I do about my problem, not the "not having W7 problem", but the, you know, BSOD problem.
try a system restor

what does the BSOD say?

I would reformat your hard drive. I assume you know how do that, and you're not on the machine in question?

Of course not, I can't even get past the Windows Loading screen, which is what stands in my way of reformatting.
It may not be a virus after all according to this:

Yes....
Neither helped, they say it is a driver fault, but as soon as I ran the program I got BSOD.

when you turn on your pc, the first screen is the bios screen.
the one with all the "press [key] to do [something]" stuff.
you probably only have a few seconds to open the dvd drive. so press it a lot until it opens once and stick the cd in, and close it.
I forgot to ask, what CD?
I forgot to ask, what CD?
the windows CD.
whatever OS you will be installing.
if its a prebuilt, it should be called a "recovery" CD
This will erase all my data or what?
