I want honest opinions on this mid-range PC OEM/Custom combination.
Will be built off a Gateway 4840-11C and some stuff from future shop.
Total cost:
$750
I know it is a rip off, But I am trying to purchase local goods.
CPU
Intel core i3-550 3.2ghz
Ram
4gb of DDR3 Mushkin radioactive
Video card
ATI Radeon 5770 1gb DDR5
Harddisk
Two western digital 7,200 RPM 500gb and 1tb drives.
PSU
550w Coolermaster eXtreme
Yeah, I want to use it for gaming, hdtv...
I know it sounds like a horrible price, But it comes with quite alot.
72,000 RPM DRIVES!!
Really, aside from the i3(which isn't really a terrible CPU to begin with), that's not bad at all.

Would love to know a bit more about the motherboard.
Hahaha, I wish. I do not have a clue about the motherboard and I'm buying the OEM Pc tomorrow then adding in my psu, ram, video card, hdd. I might aswell call up Gateway and ask for the motherboards model, or when I get it I can just look inside and try and find a label. I do not plan on overclocking anyways, So it isnt a problem.

Another problem; I think the pc is specifically made for Future Shop as it isnt even listed on their website. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/gateway-gateway-intel-core-i3-550-computer-dx4840-11c-dx4840-11c/10154035.aspx
Which has made it increasingly hard to find information.

^ Older model DX****
I can see some design flaws...
Though I have to admit I am liking that harddrive mount..

As a AMD user, that HSF is pretty fucking out of this world. It is like a tube....
if you're going to be replacing half the shit anyway just build it yourself

To lazy.
You could build a better computer from scratch for less and it'd only take you about 3 hours building time + about another hours learning

It's called an air duct. A lot of computers have them.
To lazy.
it's less effort to put it together than to take shit out then put different shit back in
the only thing you're doing is wasting money

I know how to build. I just do not feel like waiting for shipping. Anyways, I purchased the stuff 20 minutes ago, Running on the system now. Pretty fast, I did not have to wait for steam downloads as I stuffed my old HDD into the computer... I noticed that Project Reality .957 runs pretty well. Have not tested much else. Crysis Warhead runs great on Gaming. CPU stable at 3.8ghz on stock air cooler :iia:

What would I need to learn? 3 hours is ALOT of time for putting together a build tbh.

Intersting, But I think it is useless.
[editline]28th November 2010[/editline]
Sold OEM ram for $70 at local computer shop, It was useless anyways.
Sold the crappy 300 watt psu at local computer shop for $25
Sold the shitty 4850 that came with for $49... I think this was a decent investment..
5770 paid for itself.
No it is not useless. It pulls in fresh air from the outside of the case through a vent, resulting in better temperatures. They're in a lot of cheaper computers because those cases typically only have one fan in the back.

Eh good point. But it really looks like a ABS tube with a fan in the middle...

Good thing this bastard ran AMI Bios or I would not have been able to unlock and overclock.

I'm not sure why you guys are so negative, In the end it only cost me $600 afer selling the parts I do not want.
