It will open up, But that's all it will do, It wont read disks.
I have tried,
Opening my case to see if anything was detached, All connected
Updating the driver, Didn't work.
This might help,

Pre-Thanks.
Since it's a CD drive instead of a DVD drive, I'm going to guess that it's old and broken.
EDIT: My mistake, it's a DVD drive. But it's still broken.
Get a new DVD drive, they're under $30 now.
I got the computer 3 years ago I think, perhaps 4
And optical drives seem to have an average lifespan of 3 years, irregardless of use.
Open it up and check the jumpers on the back of the drive, make sure it's set to master.
You're probably not Canadian, but have a link. DVD writers are so damn cheap, just get a new one.

My DVD drive is like 5 years old and it still works.
I have CD drives from the 90's that still work.

I said average. I've never had one work more than 4.5 years.

Actually I was looking on newegg but,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151187
This?
And his appears to be a SATA drive, so it won't have jumpers.
My automerge keeps getting broken.
Try this one.
Edited. It was actually the same drive, but Newegg just forgot to mention that it does actually write dual-layer discs while NCIX did mention it.
Yeah, OP, it's fine. Although it's 3 cents cheaper on NCIXUS. Horray.
Alright thanks
