• Ben Carson comes out of no where and ties with Donald Trump in Iowa poll at 23%
or the first time in more than a month, mogul Donald Trump is not leading the field in one of the first four nominating states in the Republican primary, according to a new poll. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson has surged up in the pack to tie Trump in Iowa, Monmouth University found in a poll out Monday. Trump and Carson are tied at 23%, according to the survey, making it the first time since July 26 that a poll in the first four states to select a Republican nominee did not find Trump substantially ahead of all other candidates. Farther behind Trump and Carson were former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, at 10%; Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, at 9%; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, at 7%; former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, at 5%; Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, each at 4%; Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, at 3%; and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, at 2%. No other candidates topped 1%. The results are a stark contrast from Monmouth's last Iowa poll, taken before the first Republican debate. In late July, Walker led with 22%, Trump had 13%, Carson had 8% and Fiorina was at 3%. A CNN/ORC poll taken earlier this month found a similar top tier of candidates, but with a much stronger lead for Trump. In that poll, Trump was at 22%, Carson was at 14%, Walker was at 9%, Cruz was at 8% and Fiorina was at 7%.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/31/politics/poll-donald-trump-ben-carson-tied-iowa-monmouth/index.html

It blows my mind that there's a growing number of people in your country who think Donald Trump is a suitable candidate......where the fuck have people's brains gone?

oh boy its the flavor of the month from 2012 all over again

i don't know how to feel about this guy. it's interesting that a former medical doctor with no political experience wants to run, but i can't get behind this dude's opinions [editline]31st August 2015[/editline] and he u-turns too often
On October 11, 2013, Carson spoke at the conservative Values Voters Summit in Washington, D.C., where he called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) "the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery," After an onslaught of criticism, Carson denied that he was "equating Obamacare with slavery" in an October 15 Washington Times column and denounced the "PC police" for attempting "to discredit and...silence" him.[110]

n a March 2015 interview with Chris Cuomo, Carson stated that homosexuality was "absolutely" a choice, claiming that "a lot of people go into prison straight, and when they come out, they're gay".[100] In a Facebook post, Carson apologized, saying that he "[does] not pretend to know how every individual came to their sexual orientation."[101][102] In a Facebook post, Carson said that he supports civil unions for gay couples and that he has "for many years".[103]

In March 2013, Carson described his views about same-sex marriage on Hannity, saying: "Marriage is between a man and a woman. No group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality, it doesn't matter what they are. They don't get to change the definition."
:I
I still can't believe this is the guy who performed surgery on me when I was two
I don't know much about Ben Carson. What makes him dumb?
I don't know much about Ben Carson. What makes him dumb?
His entire campaign revolves around the fact that he's smart because he's a brain surgeon. Instead of actually explaining smart political policies, he just says "I have a degree, I'm smart". Literally all he said during the GOP debate.
I don't know much about Ben Carson. What makes him dumb?
He's said some really abhorrent shit about gay people, including implying that prison "makes people gay," so homosexuality is therefore a choice. He's basically running on the "hey i'm a black republican who does brain surgery i'm not a politician i'm a smart guy!!!" shtick. He's viewed as more reasonable because Trump's a moron, but he's incredibly homophobic and he has repeatedly compared the modern US government to the Nazis and the Soviet government multiple times. He called Obamacare "the worst thing that's happened to this country since slavery," he said that people who take Advanced Placement history classes in high school would "be ready to go sign up for ISIS" when they finish the class, he said that the IRS means that "we live in a Gestapo age," and he said that political correctness means that "our society is very much like Nazi Germany." He's no better than the rest of the Republican candidates.
It blows my mind that there's a growing number of people in your country who think Donald Trump is a suitable candidate......where the fuck have people's brains gone?
I'm one of the people who thinks Congress is SO fucking terrible, and only live off the american people rather than work for them, that the entire place needs to be kicked in the balls. And Donald Trump's the sort of guy that'll do it. I hope he wins and I hope he absolutely wrecks the entire system like I think he would if he were president. I'm banking on him being so bad it'll be good for us in the long run
It blows my mind that there's a growing number of people in your country who think Donald Trump is a suitable candidate......where the fuck have people's brains gone?
To be fair, he only has a small number of followers. It just so happens that it's larger than the dozens of other candidates. Everyone reads Trump is "in the lead" for the GOP but when you combine all other candidate supporters weighed against Trump, Trump is a very tiny minority.

I guess it's really way too early to tell who will be the big frontrunners of this election will be, I mean, Bernie and Trump seem to be the subject of all the headlines with Hillary's campaign seemingly going to shit before it's even began with numerous controversies (apologies if I'm wrong on any of this I haven't been following it anything but passively) Maybe in a couple years we'll be laughing about Trump the way we did about Rick Perry, for a while we were super concerned about him but then he just fucked off and it was like...who was that guy again?

There's a few controversies, but the average voter doesn't care that much - people on the internet have a hate-boner for Hillary for some real odd reasons. As in they say they'd rather have Trump than Hillary, which is fucking absurd. She's not the optimal candidate for any very liberal voters, but she's still profoundly better than any Republican option on the table. I can't see Trump getting the nomination, but it's way too early to tell and votes are fluctuating left and right on the GOP side. It will most likely be Clinton on the Democrat side, the GOP side is like rolling a D20 at this point. Rick Perry's running for president again this year, so. He's not doing so well, didn't get selected for debates, and had a major flub where he called the Charleston shootings "an accident." Clinton-??? most likely, Sanders-Trump if we want to see some real interesting shit. Nothing's clear at this point.

When your choices are an indecisive dynastic wannabe who suddenly hates imm-grants, a creepy looking cunt from Wisconsin entirely owned by Koch money and a bunch of a literally whos, it isn't hard to see why Carson and Trump are surging. I'm not sure it'll last until election day, but who knows American politics feels like it's in full parody mode right now.
This isn't "out of nowhere" at all. Carson's numbers were surging after the debate. Glad to see Trump might be wearing off.
