• Red Squiggly Lines Across Screen, Low Resolution, Help?

Alright, so basically things were going fine and dandy on my computer. I was playing Fallout: New Vegas, then it suddenly crashes, and red squiggly lines appear all over the monitor, over everything. I just restarted the computer, and things were fine. Then, two days later, I go to turn it on, and suddenly the BIOS is funky, having the squiggly lines, multiple characters are deformed, etc. I then let it run the repair, and, as predicted, nothing happened. I went into it as I would normally, and the resolution was tiny, the lines were there, it ran fine, though I didn't try any games. I also saw that the theme had changed to Aero (Windows 7). So, I had quite the predicament. I decided that I would open the case, thinking it might have something to do with dust. The case needed a good dusting, so I gave it that. I then re-plugged everything in, turning it on, and it still had the issue. I'm not that great with computers, so could someone help? If you need my very basic specs, here they are:
GPU: Nvidia 8800 GT CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz 4 Gigs of Ram
If you need anything else, then please tell me. I would love to have this issue resolved.
Definitely a sort of GPU issue. Try updating your Graphics drivers? You can find the ones for your GPU on.. Well, nVidia's website, of course.
Okay, I'll try that real quick. Hopefully that will help and I don't have to replace it. That's what I'm afraid of.
Red squiggly lines are normally a fine way of saying "hey, buy a new one". But a drive does fine.
Well, I went into dxdiag to make sure what video card mine was for the drivers, and what do you know, it doesn't appear. I think it's broken.
I would say that updating the drivers are a way to extend it's life, just a bit, so you aren't staring at something ugly. But yeah, you might want to start looking for a new GPU eventually..... :saddowns: Sorry. Having a GPU go bad isn't the least bit fun, I know from experience. Edit: It doesn't appear? Uuuuhh... That's not right. Screenshot, perhaps?

Doing so, you twat. :v:

Either you need to get a new one or I would turn off your computer and unplug it for a while. It might just be overheating since you leave your computer on all of the time. Then again that is a semi-old gpu. :3

Sounds like the drivers are cacked, get new ones. if not then get a new GPU. I've had the exact same thing (Except yellow lines) [editline]3rd November 2010[/editline] How long have you HAD The 8800 anyway. NOTICE TO CTHROBOT AND OTHERS: The 8800 is by far one of the best Nvidia GPU's. especially considering the ability to quad-SLI
Two years or so, pretty sure it's dead. I bet the dust fucked it up badly. Also, the lines change depending on the background. On black, it's red. On white, it's blue. Not sure the other colours... I think you get the point though.
Out of curiosity... Could you take a picture/screenshot of this squiggly line and post it here?
