• Differing Wireless speeds on same network?

My computer is using a Zonet ZEW2546 basically a new fast adapter Our family computer is using a linksys wireless g adapter atleast 3 years old they are both connected to the to our home network yet the family computer's connection is twice as fast as my computer connection. Why is this and how can i fix this? note: both computers are basically the same distance from the wireless router (mine might be 5 feet closer)
What is physically in the way bewteen the router and the connection points?
Firewalls?
As in, walls, electrical components, etc. Its not just distance, its also materials, obviously metal and electromagnetic fields affect the strength too. Also regardless wireless is always dicky, never seems to follow logic.
well both computers are pretty much next to each other the signal 3 walls and a microwave is somewhat in the path but it would be more in the path of the home computer than mine
What brand is your router.
They're both connecting via Wi-Fi and not one by Wi-Fi and one by Ethernet?
What brand is your router.
He said Lynksys Wireless G.
I've heard that sometimes computer cases themselves can have something to do with it. But like someone else said, wireless internet speeds never follow logic. I can bring my cell phone into the middle of the park across the street from my house and still get (theoretically) 54 MB/s. Yet my desktop with a wireless antenna directly underneath my router in the basement can barely manage 24 MB/s. It makes no sense.
